Another noob question...

What is the difference between 32 pitch gears and 48 pitch gears?

Advantages/disadvantages of each?

Looks like when I build my Wraith, I will want to go ahead and change out the gears (pinon & spur) in the transmission to get closer to 5.25:1 (based on reading posts on here).

The pitch of a gear is the ratio between the number of teeth on it and the gear's size. For the same diameter gear the 32p gear will have fewer but bigger teeth than a 48p gear. The bigger teeth are stronger but they don't run as smooth as a gear with more but smaller teeth(higher pitch gear).

Example:
A 32p gear that is 1 inch in diameter will have 32 teeth while a 48p gear that is 1 inch in diameter will have 48 teeth.

Adding some info:
- Low pitch (larger teeth) is considered more sturdy and durable. Often used for high power applications. If you want a fast basher you want 32p, but for crawling/trailing 48p is strong enough.
- It's good engineering practice to avoid using cog wheels with less than 12 teeth. A 12T 32p is 3/8" diametre while a 12T 48p is 1/4" diametre.
