Default BEC Voltage ?

Hi everyone
I am following Harley's wraith guide and in it he said you should install a BEC
I have watched a few video's on how to install them but I am not sure on what voltage I should set it at.
I am still very new and only sort of get why i need it but have no idea what voltage to set it at. I have a CC usb programmer so I can set it to anything

Any help would be great

Cheer Paul

Will it be wired to only run your servo? - then set it for the servo operating voltage
Or if it's to run the reciever- then the spec voltage for that, probably 6 volts there

Mostly it depends on your setup, esc and rx and servo which way your going to want to wire it in and what voltage to set it to.

So what's your setup?

My setup is just a stock wraith but I think I will be replacing the servo down the track.
It just going to be wired to the receiver

I would wait until you replace the servo before installing the BEC. The AS-3 servo isn't a high torque servo and can be powered from the BEC in the stock ESC without issues

When you do decide to replace the servo, I would power the servo from the BEC and use the ESC's BEC to power the Rx.

If still want to connect the BEC to the Rx to power it:

  • Make sure to remove the pin for the red wire from the ESC connector.
  • Set the BEC voltage to 5 volts which is the voltage of AE-3 ESC's internal BEC. ( The max voltage for the AR-3 receiver is 6V).

The BEC usually only becomes necessary when you are running a higher torque servo. The built-in BEC in your ESC won't do well with high torque or high voltage servos. If you ultimately end up with a high voltage (usually up to 7.4v), and high torque servo, the BEC will be needed. For high voltage servos, you can directly power your servo (rather than use the BEC to power the receiver) so you can set the BEC voltage at 7.4v (for example, if your replacement servo handles that voltage) using a receiver bypass like this one:

CreationFab - Plugs Other Receiver Bypass Adapter

Hope that makes sense, good luck!

Thanks Mate
I have ordered a bypass Adapter
I am going to upgrade the servo once the stock one claps out. I will install the BEC then directly to the servo like you suggest.
