my recommandations: 1) search around first next time 2) Tlt-1 with chassis of your choice ,etc. or 3) a PTI goliath rock crawler kit |

Check out the TLT forum. They are the most inexpensive crawler, and they are super capable.

Now that I looked into some of that, I'm still a little lost. What all do I need to buy to have a crawler? I saw the TLT kit, but I would still need to buy a chassis? What else would I need? Thanks |

Wow, didnt know you needed that much stuff! Can you get like a package, with everything or like a starter kit then build better when I feel like it? I know I've seen whole kits at the local hobby shop, but was never real sure if that was everything I need. Thanks for the help. |

Ok, as for recommendations. Check the thread at the top of the TLT section, they are easy to work with and have an army of aftermarket parts. I am by no means an expert, but for someone beginning the support behind the TLT will be a huge bonus to you.

I will, but I'll try to add some helpfull info at the same time. GT40,your a freaking moron. The guy is starting out,and is concidering a very good option going with the TLT kit. Heres your list of the things he needs to buy. Quote:
To build a TLT crawler, you don't HAVE to buy a chassis. The stock one can be built from and made to work. Maybe not the best, but it'll work till the builder gets a feel of it and REALLY figures out what chassis would suit him best. You also suggested chassis's that were,as far as I know, designed around the pede tranny. You didn't even tell him he needed a pede tranny. The tranny is basically the heart of a shaft driven crawler. While were on the tranny, the stock tranny will work for a while. You don't HAVE to buy a pede tranny to start with. The TLT trannies are belt driven and the belts are bad to wear, stretch or break. A guy could run one for a while as something to start with. Some of your other things you listed....are questionable at best in my honest opinion if they are even worth concidering. Some things needed and some things aren't. A guy doesn't NEED beadlocks or rock rings to crawl. Yeah, they are cool and work good. Some of the vendors here build some really nice looking rings. Are they needed to start your first build?....no. Would I buy some for a 2.2 if I built one?.....eventually,yes. I'd look through the vendors on this site and find the ones I liked best. You recommended a battery, that most people run on super crawlers ,not TLT's If you look around and pay attention, alot of guys with TLT's are going to the 2/3 a packs from Holmes Hobbies and even double A Energizer rechargables. Hows he gonna charge the battery you suggested? IMHO,you need a charger ALOT more than beadlocks Mashers and Moabs, are they a good tire choice, yes. Apparently since thats what the majority of guys run. Are they manditory?......no.

Drinkin'andJeepin'... another option you might want to consider is looking around on eBay for a good used setup. This can be a little more hit or miss, but you might find something in the $300 price range that would be quite competent. The downside is that you haven't gotten the fun of building your own truck. Raptor's suggestion of starting with the base TLT kit is an excellent one. I would also suggest Tamiya's guide found at: http://www.tamiyausa.com/articles/fe...article-id=243 This is a nice guide to a starter setup, and lists the parts you need. Some things like tires and body can be changed later. Searching RCC will yield a lot of information, but often it is a lot to sort through. This is more prepackaged, and you can modify it to serious crawler specs later as your needs change and your interest develops. |
