Default Batteries...

Ok, so my SCX10 arrived today but it has no battery (Australia post regs say you can't send batteries, guy didn't wanna risk it). My question is, can I use just any old battery to test it all works? Say a drill battery or something else. I also have a heap of 12v rechargeable "long life cells" (they're used in big fire detection systems). Could I use these? I think the AE-2 has a max voltage of 12.6v so it should be ok if they're say half discharged yeah?

I have got a LiPo battery on it's way but have no idea when it will arrive...
Cheers,

I just found a battery with 9v, should that be ok? And if I need a separate BEC for 12v, does that mean I won't be able to run my 3s LiPo until I get one?
Cheers,

Cheers,
That esc will only handle a 2s lipo, which at full charge is 8.4v, so putting 9v to it might make it unhappy. Wire up a separate bec, and then you can use the 3s lipo.
