| New Gearing?
Hey guys, I haven't posted her in almost 5 months, what with school (freshman year isn't as bad as it sounds), but I'm back! I have an SCX-10, and was considering upgrading to 2.2s. Is this a good move? If so, what do I need to change on my truck? i run stock except for I have Traxxas Big Bores in the front and stock shocks in the back (lost the eclips for the stocker front shafts when one bent out in the wilderness, plz don't ask about that fiasco)with 10wt oil and a 45 turn can. Thanks for the help! |

Scx is 1.9 platform & does just as good as 2.2 tires without proper setup! The biggest issue is clearance & ride height, most run lift kits but it puts drivetrain in a bit of a bind so proper link setup is key to clock the pinion upward to prevent. I say stick with 1.9 maybe a bigger 4.7ish tire... |

The two things you need to watch out for are clearance and final drive ratio. I initially ran 2.2 Flat Irons on my SCX-10, and they worked really well. They are relatively short for 2.2s (only slightly taller than the stock 1.9 Maxxis Trepadors), so clearance with the body wasn't an issue and I didn't have to drop the pinion to manage motor heat. A taller 2.2 likely would create clearance issues, and you'd want to drop the pinion. As sic1to points out, the SCX10 can be extremely capable on 1.9s. After a little while, I switched to 1.9 Rock Beasts and enjoy the rig much more. I can still get anywhere I could with the Flat Irons, but I have to use a bit more skill in picking lines, managing throttle, etc. The beauty of this is that, if you try something and don't like it, you can always switch back or try something else. Good luck! |
