Default 32p spur gear for scx10 deadbolt

What is the largest 32p spur gear for scx10 deadbolt, that will fit under the stock cover? Where I live there is lots of small pebbles etc so it's best to leave cover on if possible. I was thinking of going up to a 32p 60t spur. Also some of the posts claim that you need a metal spur.

Don't get a metal spur gear.
Metal pinion / plastic spur is the way to go.

That is a 54T 32P Spur.
I think that is as big as you will get under the cover.

54T spur w/ 10T pinion is 5.4 : 1 ratio which is just right for me.

I'm guessing THIS for the Deadbolt. I know it fits in the SCX10.

A noob question: Why not a steel spur?

Steel spur is noicy, and last but not least plastic spur is cheap and easy to replace. Better than you break something more expensive.

Steel spur gears are generally for nito / gas rigs.

Steel pinion and spur will be LOUD!

Plastic spur provides a cheap, easily replaced weak point in your drivetrain to fail first, before tranny gears.
The slipper clutch is designed for this as well but generally they are tightened to a point they really don't provide much "protection."

A Duratrax 56T 32P is also another good choice. A 60T will not fit under the cover.

I understand the need for plastic spur in racing rc cars to protect gear box. I'm about 3 months into trail/crawler stuff. I need to slow my truck down some Is why I wanted a bigger spur. I'm running a Robinson racing 11t pinion now. I didn't think a 10 would work because of lack of adjustment space.

How much slower do you need to go? Have you considered a higher turn motor? Have you upgraded from the stock radio? If so, you could dial in some throttle expo to slow down the low end of the throttle range or turn down the throttle endpoint to limit your maximum throttle.

I'm using airtronics mx v for rx tx and stock motor and ecs. I installed overdrive front axel gears and mip shafts. Rr 11t pinion. When I turn down the exp{I think that's the name of it} the truck dosnt have much go for getting over stuff. My problem is I'm trying to go slow enough to allow my son who's 4 to keep up in his maxstone crawler.

I run the RRP 56t Slash slipper in my SCX10 with anywhere from 9-12t pinions (ROC 412 3100 kV on 3s, UD rear). I have the RRP tranny gears also. It's a great setup. The cover fits it fine, and it's been bullet proof through much abuse. To get better low speed resolution, you might want to look into something like a Crawlmaster 16t. I run that on a couple of other rigs, and it's super smooth at low speeds. If you run it on 3s, it also has plenty of punch.

I'm interested in Holmes hobbies motor. I haven't figured out which one I want I guess the 45 t would be a good place to start. With my current gearing how slow will the 45t be 3 mph ?

That 45t will be slow...even on 3s...my opinion is 27t or 35t on 3s and the gearing you have...

ehh, read the thread, he want to go slow, get a 45t and use 2s, if you want more speed, use 3s. 55t I think would be to slow, since on 2s it can hardly keep up regular walking speed.

That sounds like good information. I can't wait for Jr to be ready for more speed. We made a mile trail Sunday and he didn't flip his car over once. Very slow tho! He dose well at the golf course I put out cones and let him have at it. with my 1/8 aluminum sand rail.

I run the traxxas 56t and a 10t pinion. That's with the old style slipper though. I haven't used the new style but I know axial offers different spur options. I'm gonna guess that 56 is going to be the biggest while still keeping the cover. You might also be able to enlarge the slots for the motor to run a smaller pinion too.

As stated, a 45t will be like tripping over the rig, at a snail speed.. Even geared up on 3s.
Which leads to burning out the motor.

Gear down, volt up, and motor up!

As suggested.. A 16t crawlmaster would be a beneficial choose.

you can gear up to slow it down. Or let Jr run it on 2s, 3s for you.

Going with a 13-16t crawl type motor will give you good slow speed resolution and a little pep when your playing alone.

That and ur motor life will be much longer, cause when ur on long walks, you won't be at full rpm's the whole time.

Feel free to pm me with any further HH questions.

I just built a rig up for a 6yr old and dropped a waterproof Brxl and a 13t crawlmaster pro in it.

His dad is happy with it and the boy is grins ear to ear every time he runs it! (His dad says)
