Thanks those look sturdy and proline makes good stuff. I will investigate them more. I have had no luck with the stock shocks. Axial wasted the plastic they used on them .

Are there any cheaper alternatives to the Prolines?

Traxas 2660 90mm are super smooth and never ever leak. I just picked up a full set on ebay last week without springs for $19 a pair with free shipping. Not as sexy as the Prolines but way less expensive and they work as well maybe even better than the Prolines IMO. |

Rear shocks from an Associated B4, they are smooth, don't leak, and I picked up 4 from a RTR B4 with springs on ebay for $21. The only downside is the shock bushings are sized for SAE hardware and will need to be drilled out to 3mm.

Are you using the rears all the way around? I use to race associated t4 and b4 ive got lots of the older blue aluminum shocks laying around.

Yeah, rear shocks all the way around. I had a full set of springs from when I had a SC10 so I went with green springs on the front and black in the rear. It is a perfect setup for my truck.

I did some reading up on prolines and i like the looks but. I also like the looks of the icon shocks. My main issue is leaks. I live in west Texas and sand is my enemy.

My Icons have done very well and haven't leaked. I also really like the Gmade Xd piggybacks. Similar look, but with functioning reservoirs and adjustable oil pressure. The adjustable pressure really helps dial them in to your liking.

I lost a lower spring retainer on the rtr axial shocks Today. so I had a reason to replace the rtr's. Found a set of icons on eBay for 25 today. What is a good shock oil weight to start with?

Thank you for the shock oil suggestion. I called axial today and asked if it was normal for there shocks to leak. The tech guy said no and said he would send me a set of non leaking shocks. hum? That was nice of him.

Axial is pretty good about that stuff. I would get gmade xd's or proline slash shocks. Both have been fantastic. My icons do well after a little tuning but just arent silky smooth like my xd's. |

I run the losi blues on my G2. Love them. I had icons my scx10. I assembled them with losi green slime. They never leaked and functioned well. I will say tho the losi's are smoother and work better. I have a set of prolines coming and plan on runnin them this weekend. I can report back on those if you want.

Try Losi 4 inch crawler shocks with the white springs. You can get them off ebay and when you build them use green slime on the cartridge that holds the orings and they should not leak. 30 wt oil. Associated sells green slime and every shock I've built with it don't leak for a good while then you know it is time to service the shocks when they start to leak. Traxxas slash rear shock internals with strc shock bodies ( aluminium) and caps is another good choice but you got to slime them too. The rebuild kits for the traxxas shocks will be easier to find at your Lhs, cause the slash is one of the biggest movers in Rc for racing and bashing. I have the Losi shocks on both of my scalers even though they are not very scale but the articulation is really smooth. Green slime is the key I would almost bet you could use the stock crap shocks and slime them good and they wouldn't leak. Lesson learn from racing oval and off road. The proline powerstrokes will also leak if not slimed as well. Get the picture? |

I have use the slime I'm my t4 stadium truck. I'll have to get another bottle for the icon shocks. I would like an update on the proline shocks. Check all the deminsions when getting aftermarket shocks.

I'll give another vote for pro line, I'd also like to add stay away from Gmade. I have used a tube of green slime on them and they still leave puddles. I would think perhaps I'm an isolated case but I've seen others in the same boat. When their freshly built their great, extremely tunable, just dont expect to get more then a day before maintenance is required. |
