Tire venting

Hello,
I am running 1.9 super swamper XL's with the CI foams made for the tire's, and gearhead beadlocks.
Do I leave it alone, or do I want vent the tires?
Thanks

Re: Tire venting

I personally run my tires unvented and even plugged the vent holes on my stock wheels with 3mm rubber plugs

CI recommends that you vent tires.

I vent all my tires, the tire not the rim two or three holes. Let's water out, tires flex well.

Re: Tire venting

Venting improves tire performance it allows the tire to conform to the surface giving you more traction. You can then control the amount of traction by using different foam combinations. For best results you want your front tires to have more traction than the rears, CI DD foams Front soft outer in the rear medium outer. A single 1/8" hole is all you need.

I used to do this...went up to high mountains crawling weekend and they were all puffed up like balloons...had to vent them and now I vent all my tires. I used to vent wheels, but now put three or four 2mm holes in the tire tread area as per CI using a leather punch. "thumbsup"

I'll just reinforce, that if you Crawler Innovations foams, they are designed to run with a vented tire.

Re: Tire venting

The tires on my crawler came with vents in the rim. I would put a whole in the tire or rim some where. It works much better for letting air and water out.

Re: Tire venting

Despite CI saying to vent, I wasn't. I finally did once I realized how much temp and altitude affect the tire. I drill the tiniest hole I can in the wheel, I can use elec. tape if I decide to change it.

Re: Tire venting

To vent a tire, I just put a very small "slice" in it with an x-acto blade, usually 2 180 from each other.

Re: Tire venting

On the tires I do vent- I use the good ol hot poker wire method. Heat up the end of a wire red hot, and poke it into the tire from the outside inwards in the center between lugs. No sharp edges for it to rip and naturally flings water out.

A leather punch works great for venting tires before you mount them
