Depends on how you define better:

If you mean more power in smaller pack then the answer is not yet commercially available.

If you mean you are concerned about "safety" issues around Lipos then LiFe and NiMh are alternatives but will be much larger packs with less punch and run times.

LiFe has slightly less power for the weight. It is, however, a much better battery in terms of its longevity, safety and discharge potential. Properly maintained, they will take 50 - 100 times as many cycles, and can be discharged to a much lower voltage without damaging the cells.
They weigh a few grams more per watt / hour and don't typically have as high a burst current rating.

To clarify further. LiFe cells have a lower energy density than the Lipo packs people use. Meaning for the same physical size pack you get less energy (run time).

They do however traditionally have a higher power density (the amount of amps they can deliver based on their capacity). For the same size pack they can deliver more amps/ power, for us it means more torque.

Has anyone used any of these to run you rc? We're you happy with the proformance?

LiFe cells? Yeah about 5 years ago or maybe even 8 years ago they were tried, and failed. LiPo is the way, hence the ENORMOUS popularity of them.

LiFe cells are too big, and lack the voltage.

The LiHV lipo's from Turnigy are fantastic.

They have a higher voltage, the turnigy bolt 4S 2400mah lipos i run in parallel are 15.2v 130C.

You need a capable charger to charge them to their full potential though, normal chargers are fine, but big difference once fully charged to 15.2v.

LiFe cells are bigger and do not have as much energy but they are significantly safer if you are putting them in the hands of a child who may not care for them properly. You can get them in metal cylinder form factor and they are very robust mechanically, you will not have to worry about him dropping them or knocking them around and catching fire. They are also less susceptible to damage from over discharging and over current. Some of them even have a safety device (CID= Circuit Interrupt Device) built in so if they are mistreated to the point of risk they pop their internal fuse.

If you are talking about a top of the line Pro Comp Crawler they are not your best choice but I see no reason why you could not put them in any other crawler around. Maybe you get 45 minutes of run time instead of an hour and change.

As for the voltage just use an extra cell 2S -> 3s, 3s -> 4s, etc.
