Affordable Servo? Ok, so i've been reading that the stock Wraith servo isn't very good, so...what is a good affordable servo....mainly for light crawling, and trail....oh, and I'd like to have one that is waterproof. I've looked at some of them and $100+ is a lil steep....my wife keeps me on a tight budget when it comes to my hobbies...lol |
Re: Affordable Servo? Keep reading and you'll find out that the Wraith platform, with it's large tires, spooled diffs, and no servo saver is very hard on servos. If you cheap out on a servo, you will continue to have to buy cheap servos. If you buy one good servo, that is truly affordable as time goes on. |
Re: Affordable Servo? yeah, I age with you...I guess it's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission huh...lol |
Re: Affordable Servo? Solar d772 servo, runs about $40. I havent had any issues with mine, descent torque. I also have a savox sa1230 which has 500 oz of torque, runs about $80. Although the solar isnt bad its well worth the investment to get a good servo but everyone has a budget |
Re: Affordable Servo? m7990th Just buy it and be done. I just pulled my 7954sh (408 oz/in) and installed this beast (611oz/in) and I don't have any trouble now lol. |
Re: Affordable Servo? Just keep saving up & get a nice servo & be done with it, worth the investment."thumbsup" That is one thing that is 1st to go when I buy a RTR they keep the cost down by providing the minimal amount of torque just turn the wheels while moving. |
Re: Affordable Servo? I picked up a hitec TG servo thinking I needed something VERY powerful...only to end up using that servo for the rudder of my 55cc Extra 330SC from redwingRC. So instead, I went with the Hitec 7985MG servo and it's been working great! I don't think it requires the extra BEC as the stock Mamba Monster 2 ESC seems to be handling it pretty well on 4S and 6S operation. Although I've only been able to run the truck for a total of 5 minutes up until this point so mileage may vary. :) TowerHobbies.com | Hitec HS-7985MG Digital High-Torque Metal Gear Servo |
Re: Affordable Servo? Why would you spend $80 to have less torque than the stocker? You could've got the 7954sh for the same price. |
Re: Affordable Servo? Yeah I dont understand that either. |

Re: Affordable Servo? Put some aluminum wheels and sticky tires on it. Do the front battery mod and see how far a cheap servo gets you. My 7954 wouldn't turn the wheels lock to lock at a stand still. It got hot crawling rocks and just didn't perform. Do some laundry and rub her feet then go buy a big servo that will support future mods. |
Re: Affordable Servo? Solar d772 is a great servo and is $23 on amazon im rather happy with its performance and power specially at its price point however. If u can find a holmes servo that's ur best bang for the buck |
Re: Affordable Servo? Savox SA 1230SG Monster Torque Coreless Steel Gear Digital Servo Glitch Buster | eBay I just put one of these in my Wraith. Battery forward, sticky tires and aluminum wheels and it works really good. I've since turned my bec up to 6 volts, so I'm thinking it's going to steer even gooder next time out "thumbsup" |
Re: Affordable Servo? If a 7954 wouldn't turn you wheels lock to lock at a stand still then something is wrong. Just sayin' Quote:

Re: Affordable Servo? So someone at Hitec recommended that you buy a more expensive servo? That's a shocker.... Quote:

Re: Affordable Servo? I'm gonna look into the Solar servo...shoot, it says it puts out over 300oz of torque here is my next question...how do you waterproof a servo....or can that even be done? |
Re: Affordable Servo? Here is a link to a good video of how to waterproof a servo. Remember nothing is perfect is but it does help. Probably would be a good idea to try it out on a junk servo if you have one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vu4muQWNwxM Quote:
