| 540 or 550
I got a HPi maverick that comes with a 540, kinda fast. Then I got a redcat Blackout with a 550, its faster. So I put a Blackout 550 in the maverick and got a little faster. Then I got a redcat Volcano that came with a 540. The Volcano is definitely the fastest of the three with the original 540. I have a 550 for the Volcano but it may not be any faster?? I have to admit if the Volcano gets much faster, I will crash a lot. There must be other differences, I dont know. |

There is so much more that goes into a motor besides it's size. Heck set the motor specs aside and the gearing is just as important.

If everything else is equal the 550 has the torque advantage because it has more steel on the arm and more copper wound on it.

There's a few things to consider such as gearing and the kv of the motors also.

gears! of course. Lower gears would give it more squat. Half a century ago I was comping early slot cars. I geared my 8 volt Kemtron at almost 5:1. Unbeatable on the small GP tracks. Now and then the armature would fly apart. After I learned to epoxy the armature they held up pretty good. Occasionally burn up tho. |
