Default Lowering COG but lose ground clearance?

It seems like lowering the center of gravity is important for crawling. In doing so, aren't you losing ground clearance which I would think is also important for crawling? Does one take priority over the other? What's the best way to account for both of these things in design of your rig?

Simply putting weight down low will help lower cog without changing ground clearance

Center of gravity is far more important as it affects climbing, side hilling, and even how your suspension geometry reacts. With bent rear links and /or chassis lean ground clearance isn't really an issue.

x2 I'd take a lower cog and even weight distribution over super ground clearance any day of the week... Believe it or not, my Trailfinder 2 out-crawls my scx-based rig just because it has a lower cog and even weight distribution

Okay. What are the common mods I need to lower cog?

It's all weight distribution... I've found that motor-forward setups with a transfer case that sit lower in the chassis to be effective. You want to maximize your suspension travel without increasing ride-height. Using taller shock hoops will help with that.

What do you mean by shock hoops? Taller shock mounts to lower the ride height?

On what truck? They make lowering kits aka droop kits for the wraith, scx10 etc. They simply raise the upper shock mounting location for a lower ride height.

I run my rigs about as low as they can go. I'll take a few belly-drags over a tippy rig any day.

Bomber is pretty limited, but flip link/shock mounts on axle, shorter shocks or run no preload on spring collars and/or get softer springs so at ride height your shock shaft sit half way in the shocks instead of fully extended out.

Shorter shocks seems counter intuitive for better crawling...I have a lot to learn.

Flex is over rated try and stick with atleast tire height of flex anything over tht is useless in my opinion

Low slung rigs not only look better they are far more predictable and less prone to role overs. I like to run an internal and external spring on my shocks. The 2 spring set up works amazing for me. I know what my rigs are going to do and they spend very little time on their lid.

This too. I also don't like huge tires, stock size-ish is better.

Why run an internal spring and external spring? Ivery only seen people run one or the other
