| savage build: wheel base... ?
hi all, my savage build is going awsome so far... i'm using 10-32 male steel rod ends for the 4 link set up... since its a beefy truck i had to go with beefy stuff 160$ can. for 16... ouch! and for the wheel base i have kinda of an issue... my total drive train w/o drive shafts is (end of yoke to end of yoke) a tiny bit less than 7'' long. as a result i get a 20'' wheel base using stock revo shafts length, i think its too long, 17-18 would be good. but if i do so i increase my drive shafts angles and shorten links... will this have an effect on articulation? ... what would be that bad in having 20'' wb? thanks!! |

i was thinking about finding the right wb by calculating a nice e-maxx long wb in relation with a e-maxx axle width and a savage axle width. by doing so you will keep the same ''square''. i read there Axle Widths that the e-maxx axles are 14 1/4'' wide. i thought that the savage was bigger than the maxx but my axle is 13 1/4'' wide mesured at the same places claimed for the e-maxx. so i should have a shorter wb... while looking at the maxx galery i looked up at the wb and the most common is 16 1/2''. i find that wb short so lets take 17''. 17/14.25= 1.2 1.2x13.25= 15.8'' ... lets say 16'' wb for my savage, thats about 2'' less per drive shafts! help me out on this one guys... |

i made a truck with a 19In wheelbase and that was too long(hard to find bodies that would look right). so like you said a 16.5-17.25 is good

What diameter are the tires you are going to run? Twenty inches is really long, even with 4ws it wont have a great turning radius but should be liveable. If you run Imex Kongs or Imex Swamp kongs then a 20" WB will be fine. If you are going to run a Proline Moab 40 XL or Moab 40 then I think 18" would be max for a good breakover angle. |

thanks 18'' it will be... a few mins ago i got axle with stock savage tires to se different wb... 20'' too long, 19'' bit long but would be okay on kongs, 17'' i dont see diff between that and 18'', and 16 is tiny... so i decided to make it 18'' long because it will look nice and still have decent drive shaft/links lenght... and as you said i'll be okay to run either kongs or moabs xl i was also thinking about imex red rocks for the look. now i have piks to take and host |
