What's a good brushed motor for scx10

A buddy of mine has the Tekin 30t in his and he likes it but just seeing if there are any other good choices? Maybe cheaper perhaps? I do want one that I don't have to change my stock gearing and I want one that I can replace the brushes in. Maybe cheaper but I still want it to be a good motor. My stock is 27t so anything close, but probably not over 30t. The Tekin motor is not a terrible price, but just seeing what is some other choices

Would 13t not be too fast?

I love my Holmes Torquemaster 35T

For what you are trying to accomplish, the Yeah Racing Hackmoto 35T is a great option. They are rebuildable, and commonly sold for around $20. You can run it on stock gearing (with 3S lipo preferred) and it will serve you well. If you were only going to run 2S lipo, I would suggest the 27T motor.

The Holmes CrawlMaster 13t:

CrawlMaster Expert 540 - CrawlMaster Series - Brushed Motors - Motors

is different than a standard 13t brushed as it has a 5 slot armature instead of the typical 3 slot, therefore the number of turns is the equivalent of a 27t motor. The 5 slot style maximizes smooth startup and efficiency. It is listed at 2250kv.

It's also available in a Pro Hand-wound style fr more money.

The TorqueMaster is a 3 slot, so the number of turns is similar to other brushed motors.

The Tekin Pro Hand Wound motor are awesome! I have the 40T one from Tekin on my SCX10 II and barely need drag brakes. My esc is set at 20% drag and still manage to get a firm hold. I could set the drag brake stronger, but I like my trail rigs to have a good hold without blocking the wheels instantly on release of the throttle. Those motor are really efficient. They produce a great amount of torque, stay cold and provide great runtime. If you can't afford the PRO version, the HD version is really good for the price too.

TT2123 - T40 Pro Brushed Hand Wound
TT2124 - T30 Pro Brushed Hand Wound

TT2114 - T45 HD Brushed Motor
TT2115 - T35 HD Brushed Motor

The brushes are softer than cheap sealed can. They provide better efficiency, but may wear faster if you run submerged in water or thru heavy mud. But they are easily replaceable and quite inexpensive. I have +16 hours of driving on my SCX10II and it's barely noticeable as the brushes and comm still look brand new.

If you are on a budget, the Hackmoto / Gool RC / Hobbyking rebuildable motors are okay... But I would suggest going with the cheaper Tekin HD or even the new Axial Trail Breaker rebuildable motor.

Would this motor be suitable to run on 2s? All I run is 2s
Also what rotation and timing would I need?
And is all these motors fine to use with my stock axial ESC?

Also what rotation and timing would I need?----stock zero timing is fine and rotation really doesnt matter if you are at zero timing, just switch motor wires to get the desired rotation
And is all these motors fine to use with my stock axial ESC?--Yes

So that holmes motor would be equivalent to my stock 27t axial motor as far as power and speed?

X2. You cannot go wrong with Holmes Motors, I had one in my old crawler I sold. It treated me very well and the new owner has told me many times he will not purchase another brand again. I am sure Brood Makes great motors, I just don't have experience with them.

I prefer the integy lathe motors. I have a 35t I love, and they have replaceable brushes, and are inexpensive.

What about the motor leads? It says straight or 90° bent, or none I'm assuming. What if I choose none?

I've ran a lot of different motors over the years and I still have 35 and 55 turn integy motors on the shelf. After running a holmes and brood motors I'm forever ruined on integy. They are scrap metal to me now. The 55 turn lives ironically on my lathe since that's all its good for.

If you can solder just get none. I prefer my motor soldered directly to the esc anyway.

Re: What's a good brushed motor for scx10

Yes I can solder. So it will have the little tabs to solder my wires to right?

Also, just how much water and mud can these Holmes motors take? I don't do much 'mud' running, but I splash through creeks sometimes. I try not to fully submerge though.

WHITE-TRASH 11-13-2016 01:01 PM

Re: What's a good brushed motor for scx10

Yes the solder tabs will be there. I still remember when it was common to use female spade connectors on those tabs. :lmao:

The motor will he fine. Water won't do much harm to a brushed motor. If it gets too grimy tear it down and flush the can with motor spray and check the brushes.

Re: What's a good brushed motor for scx10

Ok Cool. Is resistors required?

And which brushes are the correct ones for the expert 540 motor? And is a motor break-in required?
