| Sidewinder 3, What wire to cut after BEC install
Hi, So I know I need to cut the red wire on an ESC with red black and white wire when installing a BEC... My new sidewinder has brown, red and Orange. Is it still the red wire? Thanks!!!!! |

Most likely it's the middle wire and you don't actually have to cut it. You can get the pin to release from the servo connector and then tape it up to the rest of the wires allowing you to put it back to stock without any modification in the future. All you need is a tiny tip. I usually use a pin or the point of a thin blade Xacto.

Yes, red is power, brown is ground, and orange is signal. Like Chup said, don't cut just pull out of the connector.

And there's another reason not to cut it. If you ever want to do any esc programming with a Castle Link, you'll need to temporarily restore the red wire in the connector.

I prefer a 3" extension, and remove the red altogether . I don't worry about the esc powering my receiver , as I run at 7.4v using a Holmes rx Hang up and Drive |

I've always ran those Holmes bypass harnesses, so easy.

The guy in my lokal LHS told me just to lock at the wire colors like you are color blind. Darkest is ground, brightest is the impuls, the other is power. |

This is the way to do it, leave the red esc wire connected and use bypass harness so the BEC power goes straight to the servo and everything is grounded together for less chance of interference and weird electronic problems. | |
