Default leaky shocks

Hello, I just purchased a Redcat everest 10. I've driven it 2 times and now two of the chocks are leaking a good amount of oil. Is there a way to reseal them or would I be better off getting upgraded shocks. I don't know much about the RC world. I would like to keep the car running for as cheap as possible.

I just posted this to another member on this site, but Traxxas sells these Blue Xrings you can use in place of your O-rings or spacers in the shock that will keep it from leaking.

Traxxas Part # 2362, comes with 4 of them and are like $2something for the pack.

I did a little write up on my build post #109

My IFS Bomber Build

Good luck.

using green slime is also recommended in many leaky shock threats.
i think doing both will help u or even one of it. both methods are cheaper than new shocks.
I personally build my shocks (Yeti Kit) using silicon grease on the o-rings, no issues so far, but if i run into it i would do both methods.
In my eyes most important parts:
u have to care about, pressing the shaft thru the o-(x-)rings should be done very very carefully to not harm them
And do not over tighten the shock cap.

Nobody mentioned Teflon tape on the threads. It's a must for shocks.

Never thought about this, but that makes sense

You're right guys, good points .

I forgot to mention the green slime and teflon tape here, but in my post about the Xrings, I used the green slime and also thread sealant, which is essentially the liquid version of teflon tape. Definite necessities.

I used Green Slime, teflon tape around both bottom and top threads, and Traxxas X rings on my SCX10 II shocks. Also make sure you don't overfill then,, which can cause too much pressure within the shock body which can lead to leaks as well. Mine have no bench leaks so far, but I haven't had a chance to run the truck. I am confident they'll be fine though.

Awesome. Thanks for the info, I'll get them apart today and try the slime and Teflon tape first then the x rings if that doesn't solve the problem

Just do the X-rings while they are apart. They are dirt cheap.

X2

AE Green Slime or any grease on the o-rings (preferably X-rings) helps keep shocks smooth and reduces wear on the seals, but it will not help seal already leaking shocks. New rings with some grease and careful rebuild should do the trick.

I always wrap the shock shaft threads in teflon tape too when pushing through the O rings to prevent tearing. Also make sure the lower cap isn't on (nevermind tight) when pushing the shock shaft through. A tight cap compresses the O rings which significantly increases the likelihood of tears!

Yes, I do that but not the wrapping shaft part, just lube it well and gently wiggle it in past the ring seals, then tight the lower cap and wipe outside clean.
