Default Ascender Combo from RPP Hobby

I have been contemplating getting the Ascender combo from RPP with the Kinexsis KX6 2-6S charger and Dynamite Reaction 7.4V 4000mAh 2S 50C LiPo.
First question.. Is this a decent charger and battery?
Next question... Anyone have experience with RPP? Good Bad?

Thanks in advance,

Jon

RPP is great, that battery is great, been using mine for almost 2 years in my ascender and the truck is awesome too! Don't know about the charger but the other things you won't regret for sure!

RPP is possibly the best hobby site I've dealt with online. I think every order I've placed was shipped the same day. Which means I typically have my items in 2 days as I'm just up the West coast from them.

I've not had first hand experience with either the battery or charger you referenced. I know some guys on here have bought that battery as it fits the tray on the Ascender nicely. Don't recall hearing any complaints around it's performance. The 2-6S charger seems like it would be a good choice. Probably better ones out there on the market but for a combo that gets you up and running it would be a good place to start.

The charger is very, very basic. The battery is not bad, but if it's in a bundle it's probably overpriced. You'd be much better off, in the long run, spending more on the charger and then getting LiPo batteries from HobbyKing.

Ive had some experience with a very similar charger. Looks like one of the many companies that sell the rebranded skyrc charger that can charge an extra amp.

Word of caution, looks like its may be using the same circuitry and my friend had an issue where if the cells got too far out of balance, they would not charge it. He balance charges everytime on it, but every month or two he has to bring his battery over, let me balance charge it on my Venom Pro Duo and it works again. Now this is most likely due to the fact its a cheap lipo and that the charger doesnt have a storage charge option (can get around that by using a volt meter).

IMO, If you want a cheap charger to get you started I would recommend a Turnigy for $5 more (does 6a and has volt meter) or the imax B6. for cheaper. VERY handy to have an integrated volt meter.

I have the Kinexis KX50D. It's not a bad charger, I like it. I also have a Hitec Duo. I prefer the Hitec because of resistance readings and fast charge, but really, they have almost the exact same programing, etc. I don't think you can go wrong with the charger. It's a Horizon Hobby product as well.

I have a KX80 charger. You get a much better product for not much more money which will be better in the long run. As far as RPP, you can't go wrong with them.

Agreed, but either one will work fine.

Does RPP always have the same coupon codes?

Wondering if I need to hurry up and place my order or hold out to see what May brings for coupons....

Thanks

I have the combo. The truck, charger, and battery are awesome. I can get a full hour or more on a single charge. I am very pleased with this whole combination.

I am for sure ordering the ascender from rpp today.

How about the hitec x1 mf charger from rpp? Decent?

Also, if I am running 3s lipos, should I consider a different motor or gearing? Or should I be fine?

Buy the Ascender, Buy a decent charger and an appropriate adapter (hi-tec or Duratrax Onx), the Ascender takes stubby batteries (buy the one in the combo), go 2s or you will break stuff, 50c is good, RPP is great. Rpp has 15% off around holidays, subscribe.

also don't try to buy the cheapest thing you can find. RC stuff like most things is "you get what you pay for"

Cool, you'll love the Ascender. Yes the Hitec X1 is a solid charger, X2 AC Plus is even better and charges two batteries concurrently. If you're trying to keep cost in check, then go with the X1.

Uusally, but sometimes they are good, always gotta check specs, prices and remember shipping costs if any.

Yes, but I've not had anymore problems on 3S than 2S with my SCX10 or my Ascender.
