Default AE-5 ESC with CC BEC

Hi, I'm new to this forum and waiting for my SCX10 crawler to arrive (ordered used). The truck is running a 27T motor with AE-5 ESC and I would like to run my existing 3S lipo batteries (3S 25C 5000 mah 11.1V, 3S 25C 2200 mah 11.1V). Will the AE-5 ESC handle these batteries? Should I install the CC 10A BEC?

thanks!

The AE-5 ESC features include 3S LiPo capability, adjustable drag brake and it's waterproof! Settings can be easily switched “in the field” between LiPo and NiMH battery types with a simple jumper – no more complex procedures!

• Jumper 1 provides a simple plug and play choice between LiPo or NiMH batteries
• Jumper 2 switches drag brake settings
• Waterproof design
• Includes Star style battery plug
• No on/off switch - power supplied by battery connection
• Laser etched heat sink

* Always remember to disconnect the battery when vehicle is not in use.
There you go.

Thanks, but on their website it states, "On 3S, 18-turn is the maximum". So I won't be able to run 3S on a 27-turn?

I'm also wondering if there is any benefit to running the CC BEC with the AE-5

Other way around, no faster than 18t. 27t will be fine. The BEC is to power the servo, the ESC has an internal BEC but it is generally too weak.

An external BEC is almost always a good idea.

Motor turns work the opposite of what you are thinking. A 27 turn motor is slower than an 18 turn motor so you are fine.

The AE-5 internal BEC sucks. You might get away with out an external BEC, but it surely won't hurt to have one. With a better ESC that has a good BEC you don't need an external BEC.

EDIT: maslin typed faster than me this time.

Thank you. I understand that higher turn motors are slower than lower turn motors but the wording on the website was a bit confusing. Thanks for clarifying.

I ordered the external CC 10A BEC and plan on installing that.

Thanks again!

The AE-5 is a speed control that will really benefit from a BEC.
If i remember the on board BEC is about 5v. Most servos, even RTR ones can happily run at 6v
BEC will take a little load and heat off the ESC as well, especially on 3S as the on board BEC is a liniar type so it reduces the voltage by producing heat.
