Default Shock oil?

Is the kind of shock oil used in rc car shocks the same as what kind is used in dirt bike fork tubes and rear shock?

There are to many types of fork oil on bikes to know if any are compatible with RC Shocks. I have a bike with "cartridge forks" and some fork oil would ruin the seals in them. A good starting point would be Team Associated 30 wt shock oil. I say this because the Associated oil seems to be carried by most hobby shops.

If it is silicone oil then yes. Bicycle shocks use it (usually in thinner grades than RCs).

I had the stock scx10 shocks all leak their oil out naturally over the past 2 years. So then I replaced it with a straight 30 weight oil(all I had laying around). It's been in it for roughly 9 months now without any issues. Hasn't hurt anything yet and seemed to be comparable to what they were originally. Plus it stopped leaking after the rebuild.

As a offroad motorcyclist I naturally had some Amsoil 'shock fluid' hanging around, 5 and 10 weight is what we used in various dirtbikes. It does not say it is silicone oil, I don't believe it is.
So I had bent a shock shaft on my new Arrma Typhon so I took it all apart and straightened the shaft. I didn't have RC shock fluid so thought I would try the 10 weight. Way too light, not nearly the damping effect as what was in there. So I'm picking up some RC 45-50wt silicone shock fluid tomorrow when my LHS opens.

Might work in my Ascender though - what is in there is too much for damping - it just does not rebound hardly at all. [shrug]
