Recommended Mods and Upgrades for Barrage BTD

Greetings from Ulaanbaatar Crawler fans,

I will soon build my first RC crawler, the ECX Barrage BTD kit. After reading around a bit, I see that the only essential upgrade seems to be going for a metal gear servo, which I will.

For those of you with lots of crawler build experience, and especially those with experience making this specific kit perform better, what, if anything, would you do to it? My RC style tends to be to try to keep things stock and only upgrade things as they fail or break, but I would like a fun and capable crawler.

Thank you very much for any thoughts you could offer.

hillbillyrc is the local Barrage guru, and there is a 21 page thread that has all the upgrades, in the General Scale section, pg 3, started by Szczerba, titled "1.9 Barrage RTR 1/10 Crawler"

Nice to get name dropped once in a while. Lol

As for mods and upgrades read the bible on the barrage. Good stuff starts about page 3.
Trim the spacers in half and the rear driveshaft male side needs trimmed as it binds before full compression.

Thanks hillbilly,

Are you referring to the 21 page thread here on this site, or is there another Barrage bible I should read? I'm looking forward to running this rig stock for a while, learning a bit about crawling, and maybe building it up a bit to make it better.

Cheers,
MP

When builders take the time to experiment and build trucks so they work with optimum performance, I will always recognize them and pass the info on to new members "thumbsup""thumbsup"

The build to drive kit is very well thought out in my opinion. It did not come with bumpstops, and the shocks are outboarded. The other great news is the driveshafts do not bind. The only thing I can see going wrong are the electronics. But the esc apears to be a rebranded quickrun 1060, and a 4ch reciever. I havent tested yet to see if it will bind to my Spectrum radio.

Edit: The servo binds on the front of the frame rails.

This is how mine currently sits, Installing the lights in the body...

Frame rails or the cross member above the servo?

Frame rails themselfs.

I think you'll find in real world use it won't bind. Maybe on manual full compression it will hit the rails but real world you'll be unlikely to replicate that.
