Default Getting started with Axial RTR

Hi folks,

I’m brand new to RC and am trying to find out some basic information and can use some help. I’ve been doing some searching and have found some information, but not all.

I just bought an Axial scx10 ii Jeep Wrangler. Having lots of fun. I own a 1:1 of the same model.

It comes with lots of parts like door handles and windshield wipers. From what I gather, I should buy a reamer and super glue the handles in, right? The wipers have holes in the back, so I assume I should use a screw so they can move?

Also, is there a good place for me to read this 101 stuff?

Thanks!

You can also use shoegoo or goop to glue everything in place.
If you mess up or want to move them, the glue is removable without residue.

For Learning, read through the scx10.2 section of this forum and YouTube!

Yeah, super glue and dealer, razor blade. I never add all the extras as they always come off when you wheel and flip over... there's not much to it until you start breaking stuff but it's all easy to wrench on, you don't need howtos or 101s. Until you start doing some customization. Go out there and have fun with it for now.

You can also use mini body pins to hold the door handles in place. The 10.2 is my favorite trail rig, and my perfect all around rig.

And yes, reamer is the correct tool for making holes in the lexan.

When shopping for them, look and see what measurements they have marked and what size holes you are making. For the door handles on my SCX10 II kit [Jeep Cherokee] it was 2 and 3mm. Different ones are marked better than others. Which for me is good as I'm super new to the hobby as well

Check out the ProTek PTK-8203 reamer on Amain Hobbies, best reamer I've owned, super sharp, precise and measurements well marked. Sells for about $20

Duratrax makes a reamer set with 2 lexan scissors included.

Cheap and worked fine so far.

The Duratrax reamer sucks compared to a decent one, trust me on this. I didn't know any better till I got a good one (I had the same Duratrax set) and had something to compare it to. The ProTek reamer is literally razor blade sharp.

If you have a Dremel with tapered bits you don't need a reamer.

The truck is super impressive. We drove it up some crazy steep hills easily. I’ve wanted a serious rc truck since I was a kid. I now know why this hobby is so popular.

Thanks for all of your responses. Ironically my Duratrax reamer from Amazon arrived today. I have a Dremel too, I would have been afraid to use it. The Duratrax worked fine although that ProTek looks amazing.

Does anyone know if scx10 bodies fit scx10 ii chassis? I can’t find the answer anywhere but I think I’ve seen some on other threads?

Yes, they do - just check the wheelbase as both were sold in a couple different versions. You can make any body for one fit the other with little if any modification.

The bodies meant for a 12.3" wheelbase will fit. Other bodies like the G6, Deadbolt, and Proline Bronco have a 12" wheelbase, but due to the huge wheel wells they will fit too. The wheel wells just wont line up perfect with the tires.

One thing to note is that body post locations are slightly different on 10.2 and original scx10s. Axial includes adapter body posts that will make the posts line up with the dimples (or holes) in SCX10 bodies.
