Default Axial Yeti Questions

Picking up a used Axial Yeti tomorrow, first rc for me, I know nothing.

Anyway, it has a list of upgrades,
-Vanquish hubs and steering knuckles
-incision front upper links
- vanquish shock tower and shock extender
-vanquish motor mount
-vanquish trailing arms
-incision rear upper links
-vanquish hubs at all wheels
-has beef tubes in rear axle
-hobbywing sc8 esc and hobby wing 2850 motor
-savox 1230 servo
-proline 2.2 rims with proline tires
-crawler innovations single stage tire foams

But doesn't come with the Radio or Receiver or Charger. he said it needs to be three channels one for the esc, one for the servo and one for the motor fan.

Question is, What is recommended for the radio/receiver and a charger? He is using a $200 charger, and I just can't justify that at the moment.

The charger has to match the batteries, you need give us more info.

For the TX, i would grab à cheap flysky or radiolink with 4 channels until you figure out if you want to invest more.
It's like 50$.

this is the charger he said he is using, I will have it tomorrow to get battery specs.

I thought I needed a 3 channel ? is there a reason you are saying to get a 4 channel?

This is a 3 channel, I would assume this would work? https://www.amazon.com/2-4GHz-3-Chan...ysky+3+channel

That 3 channel fly sky will work. As far as being suggested for a 4 channel... it’s better to have it and not need it. I’m sure you know the rest. Sounds like you ended up with a pretty legit Yeti. Post up some pics and keep us posted on how it runs!

The radiolink RC4GS i mentioned is their cheapest model and has 4 channels, it's pretty much the new baseline these days.

With the RC4GS you have the 4th channel for your fan and the 3rd channel is a gyro by default.
It allows the rx to adjust steering to keep the car straight and prevent loss of control in big turns.
Kinda like ABS and traction control on a real car.

I disable it for a crawler but it could be fun to try on a yeti basher

I'm suspecting that you fan does not require an extra channel to operate, and it only pulls power from the bus to operate. With my spektrum receiver, I simply plug it into the bind plug position, since the binding process is something I rarely do. On other radios all you would need is a Y-cable.

I use a Spektrum DX4C (since replaced with the DX5C), and it is a nice radio, with assignable buttons for shifter etc. It has the stabilizer gyro in the receiver (you can buy it without for less $), which works well with the yeti, but I have to have it disabled to use all four channels (steering, throttle, shifting, rear steering).

I'd recommend taking a look at the DX5C.

I looked at the Flysky GT5 but the lack of assignable and/or two-position buttons makes it kinda awkward for how I am using it, but it might make for a good starter radio, particularly with the built-in gyro function.

For chargers I have a couple of iMAX B6-AC B6AC units that I got from NewEgg. Made my own charging cables (I didn't know they were separate), and they have worked fine and charge almost any chargeable battery, and work on both AC and DC. Apparently you have to watch for 'knock-offs" but the units I received look and operate properly.

I then bought lipo balance cord extenders to allow for the batteries to be plugged in while still in the lipo bag.

I use venom 3s 3300mah 35c batteries on a cheap banggood skyrc S60 charger. Works pretty good.

If you have multiple batteries to charge fast, go to a local store and look for a good dual charger

Here is one comperable to the one I use. Been a great charger for just less than $50.

Tenergy 80w 8amp.
https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-Intel...+Charger&psc=1

Check out SMC racing when you're ready for new batteries. Decent prices for 2S/3S Lipo. Congrats on the Yeti, that is a great pick up. Let us know how you like it once you get a few packs through it.

Mostly the max charge rate. Other than that they seem comperable.
