3s power I am running a Scx10 ll with stock esc and motor with a 300in oz servo. I am happy with using 2s batteries as far as power and low speed control. What would I gain by switching to 3s ? |
Re: 3s power More power and speed. First check that your ESC can support 3S. And in order to keep things safe and cool it is recomendable that you reduce the size of the motor pinion. |
Re: 3s power As the Holmes Hobbies motto goes: "Volt Up, Gear Down!" "thumbsup" A great side effect - if you use, for example, a 3S 3300mAh LiPo compared to a 2S 3300mAh LiPo, you can also GAIN runtime at the same speed! |
Re: 3s power I know this is unpopular, but Ive personally decided to stay on 2s. There is more than enough wheelspeed, about a jogging pace, and plenty torque for the rocks I run. BUT I started rock crawling having 4 2s high capacity batteries. If I was starting fresh I would definitely recommend 3s, though you will break more parts that way. 2s is not as horrible as some make it out to be, it has plenty of power and can still be great fun. As long as you are going lipo instead of nimh you will be fine. |
Re: 3s power One advantage to 3 cells, (and the reason I run 3 cells in all my RC planes), if you gear them both for the same top speed, you can get the same performance with lower cost (lower C rated) 3 cell packs vs 2 cell packs..... |
Re: 3s power I vote yes for 3S :D You're going to gain power and speed. |
Re: 3s power |
Re: 3s power I find 2S more than capable for crawling/trailing with my TRX4 on stock gearing. Enough torque in 1st gear for crawling, fast enough in 2nd (jogging pace) when the trail opens up. But i have to admit i have not tried it with 3S yet... |
Re: 3s power So all the 3s hype is true. I'm sold. Geared down and crawls really smooth but still has good wheel speed and uses less battery Mah. |

Re: 3s power I have both 2s and 3s, I have a much softer throttle with 2s and the electronics run cooler. With 3s the throttle is more sensitive and requires much softer touch on the throttle. I'm not going to recommend one or the other but I do recommend that you try both and decide what you prefer. |

Longer run times per Mah. |
Re: 3s power And the classic rule to always remember volt up gear down with 3s youll be less into the throttle and give yourself longer run times. If u worry about to mich power with 3s just turn ur endpoints down on ur remote for throttle Sent from my LG-M703 using Tapatalk |
Re: 3s power I have 4, 2S 5000mah packs that I don’t even use any more. Once you go 3s, you will no longer distress....or something like that! |
Re: 3s power EG.... My 4000 mah 2s batteries go the same distance, on the same trail, in the same conditions in the same truck with the same gearing, as my 2200mah 3s lipos.... Just saying, running a all stock Trail Honcho ... |
Re: 3s power All my crawlers were always on 3s.. There are those moments where you need the speed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: 3s power Quote:
exactly, your 3s lipos are almost half the Mah of your 2s lipos and get the same run time... now up that 3s to 4000mah and you will get a longer run time that the 2s 4000mah under the same conditions in the same truck. Most of my rigs run dual saddle pack 3s lipos from 2200 to 2600 and run time is much longer than my single 3s 5000mah"thumbsup" |
Re: 3s power thanks for all the replies, I have made the switch to 3s, hard to explain my trucks just feel better and smoother on the trail |
