Default Steering horn binding with traxxas lift

As the title says, I just installed the traxxas long arm lift kit for my trx4 and my steering horn is binding on the track bar. At rest on level ground I have maybe 2mm of clearance between the two. More clearance when I turn hard to the right, and even less when I turn to the left.

I have a Savox sw-0231mg servo and an axial aluminum clamper steering horn. I took the horn off and I have a little bit of clearance with the track bar. Maybe a stock plastic horn would fit? Unfortunately I binned mine when the stock servo died.

I have a few photos of this in this gallery. https://imgur.com/a/2C68pPg

Can anyone make a recommendation on what I should get to fix this issue? Swap back to a factory plastic steering horn? Swap for a factory/shorter steering servo?

Would using the closer hole on the arm and shortening it work?

Unfortunately no, it is hitting the hub of the servo on the track bar, so moving the drag link won't fix the problem. :(

Maybe I need to find a horn that is skinnier than what I have now...

Like one of those^.
I just don't want to go back to a stock steering servo for the sake of a lift.

Normally i would say mount the servo on the other side, but it looks like it is not possible on the mount you use.
On the other hand the savöx 0231 is a nice servo but don't have enough torque for a trex, the savöx 0231 is higher from the mounting ears to the out spline which is causing your problem. as i could see on your pics.

Do you have a recommended replacement? I notice that the 0231 is listed as "tall" online, that makes sense now...

I may be wrong here but I thought the servo mounts on top of the servo mount and not below it on the TRX-4. I'll double check that when I get home later.

Oh and if you have your pictures hosted you can easily insert them here.

EDIT: Yes the servo mounts above/on top of the servo mount and not below it.

The lift kit uses a different mount that mounts the servo from the bottom. I'll pull the axle back off and see if I can put the servo up top.

Oh, sorry I didnt realize that had a different mount with the lift kit. I suppose regardless it needs to be raised up somehow, I was thinking you might be able to use the old mount but you need the panhard mount thats built into the new one. I would try raising the servo you have before resorting to buying a new low profile one.

EDIT: You might also get more eyes on this thread if it were posted or moved to the TRX-4 section http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/traxxas-trx-4/

Depends in your Budget.
My First steering servo upgrade was a powerhd 20kg waterproof, with all the axle weight i changed it to a Holmes hv500 v2 direct powered from my lipo using a HH Bypass.
In the trx-4 section you can find several threads regarding servos and in the electronic section as well.

What the newest cheap servo hotness?
Whats the Best 100$ Servo
possible servo choices...
and a thread regarding the hi lift kit
