| Esc questions
Hello all. I'm almost done with my build but have no idea what to do about a esc. The truck has a brushed motor currently. I have a few old esc but I was wondering if i should up grade to something with a drag brake.

What are you building? If you stick with the brushed motor go with the HW1080. But a little more info on what you want would be helpful in making recommendations.

Sorry I was way to tired when I post this. It is a tamiya cr01 I bought used and changed a bunch of stuff on it to hopefully work better. It will be a mostly trail truck with some crawling mixed in. It currently has brushed but one day would like maybe upgrade it to brushless.

It also has 4 wheel steering so dual servos if that makes a difference and I mostly run 2s packs. Running two servos will I need a BEC. The servos are power HD 20kg sorry I'm new to all this. Thank you

Yes to drag brake, Hobbywing 1080WP is probably the #1 option and hobbywing 1060 at #2 Yes to the bec, always run a bec unless you're using a Castle Mamba X (it has 8A internal bec) Sorry for my point form reply but sentences are tiring.. |

Also recommend HW 1080. You are probably ok running those servos without an external BEC on a 1080. I'd see how it works before deciding if you need an external BEC.

What Bec is a decent one or all the same. Am I wasting time with a brushed esc. Should I just go brush less.

HW 1080 for the ESC and a good rule of thumb is if your servo is over 300oz of torque, use a BEC. Using a BEC (relativley cheap) helps take a load off of your ESC (sometimes cheap sometimes not). I use Castle BECs and never had a problem with them, about $20 |

Not wasting your time at all. Brushed motors are great in crawler and trail trucks. Quote:
This Except my personal policy is that if the servo is over 150ozin of torque I run a bec. I've had more low torque servos brown out than high torque. Yes, Castle 10Amp is a great bec. You could also go with the newer/more expensive/waterproof one, but it's a lot more money and the only functional gain is the fact that it's factory waterproofed. | ||
