| Stripped spur gear on first run
I just finished an axial bomber kit and I stripped the spur within the first 5 minutes. Seemed to be running fine right up until it let go. I'm only running a axial 35t brushless and a 2s 5000mah Lipo so I don't think I overpowered it. I set the mesh using the construction paper method. Anyone got any advice? I think the construction paper is a lil to thick. Try using regular lined paper. I rock the spur back n forth a lil n feel for a tiny tiny bit of 'slap' or 'tick' between the 2 gears. But wen i first started, i used lined paper n it worked perfect Sent from my SM-J327VPP using Tapatalk |

I set them by feel - snugged up 'till you can just feel a little play in the gear mesh. If they're too tight they're noisy. Too loose and it strips the teeth off. Locktight your setscrew on the pinion - just a dab.

I agree with indybama. I’ve always just used standard notebook paper when I use this method.

What was the temperature? Plastic gets brittle when its freezing out, just a though. Could the motor have come loose maybe? |

does the top transmission input shaft have play? (in or out?) does the slipper not sit flush? (spin transmission output, see if spur wobbles) your motor have play? (in-out) (this also causes loss of performance on brushes) 32p? 48p? the paper method should work, normal notebook paper, or the little tic-toc rule. I have had many troubles with 32p on one axial, but all the others were perfect. on my troubled axial i went to 48p gears after a bunch of spur gears, and have never had any more problems. i can say that the input shaft bearings have also given me issues. i replaced them with abec5 types. little costly, but never another reason for bearing runout or damaged spur. Pinions can be troublesome too, can always try another pinion? |
