| Anyone use 2s for crawling?
Does anyone use a 2s battery for crawling (specifically with an SCX10 II)? If you do use a 2s battery, do you use a brushed or brushless motor and what number of turns or size?

I ran a 2s 5000mah battery on my SCX10.1 for about 4 years. I used a 20t (burned up), 27t (ran great, wore out after 2 years), and settled on a 13t Holmes Crawlmaster Sport. The Crawlmaster is a slightly different design of motor than the usual, so the 13t more or less has the same power as a 27-30t, but with much improved low end control. I ran that for another 2 years, before finally burning up the motor after switching to 3s (it was very worn down already, I'm not saying 3s killed it). Now I run 3s on a 16t Crawlmaster Pro, which runs very smooth. Everything else I have runs 3s, but my dad still runs 2s (4500mah shorty pack). He has run 27t, 13t Crawlmaster Sport, 11t Crawlmaster Expert, and ~2000Kv Trailmaster (brushless) motors in a few different rigs. With the right motor and overall setup (and expectations/driving style), 2s makes a great trail system, resulting in around two and a half hours of constant drive time on both trucks, and still has a usable amount of power for mild/intermediate crawling. |

Plenty still use 2S for crawling, if that's what you have right now then no problem using it in anything from 3500kv brushless to a 35T brushed motor. 3S is pretty much just a direct upgrade though but it's fun to use 2S for a bit and then switch to 3S so you get the feeling of the power boost.

Works better with a stock esc since you can't adjust stop and start, so they run slower and smoother. With an upgraded esc 3s is a no-brainer. The HW controller has 15 settings. |

My wifes rig ran 2s almost exclusively until the day she tried 3s, lol. She ran 4000mah, 2s shorty's and got about an hour to and hour and a half on the trail. My rigs have more power, smaller batteries (2200mah 3s) and the same run time, almost to the foot. These trucks are ran side by side, same gearing and tire size. Tbh she is easier on the throttle than I am. That said, my Honcho is bone stock, besides a tire wheel change and has run 3s for over 60 miles on the trail. so if you are running a rtr just go for it! |

If you have onld 2s use them sure, but if your buying batteries I would not recomend them, there is no benefit to 2s over 3s in my opinion. If speed is an issue then gear down. I run 4s in some of my rigs with 21t or 2200kv motors and those rigs are probably still slower then most people on 2s. But they put out much more torque at the wheel for smoother rock crawling. |

I have a 2S Shorty pack I bought for my K10 Ascender when it was stock - after I ran a 3S in it once I never went back. I guess someday I will need to buy a little onroad car just to give it some use someday... (hey, whatever justification for another RC works, right?) (I LOVE running 4S in my Bomber... but I need to get a servo sent in for repair because right now I only have servos that run direct from 3S that have enough torque) |

I ran 2s exclusively in my brushed Gen7 until I geared down with portals. For my style, 2s was plenty.

All I have that will fit my SCX10 ii (raw builder's kit) are my 2s lipos. Using the Gens Ace 5000mah 2s, 50c and a Team Raffee 27t brushed motor + Hobbywing 1080 ESC. Incredible run times (3 hours!) or 6km+ of trailing on a single pack. I actually haven't been able to kill the battery in a single outing yet!

I also have a 5000mah 2s, to power my RTR Ascender. I'm new to RCs and crawling, but I'm very happy with the setup so far. I'm happy with the torque, speed, and have more than enough run time. I certainly could have got away with an even cheaper pack, but the lhs was sold out of the cheaper ones, as I was shopping near closing time on December 26th.

I run 2S for the shorty battery - mounted crosswise on the front end of a TRX-4.

| Re: Anyone use 2s for crawling? Haha, I've been waiting for that comment! Thanks again for being a "good" influence. lol (For those confused, Browneye and I both post on a forum for 1:1 Chevy Colorados, and I bought a crawler shortly after Browneye posted some pics of his, with the new ZR2 body.) |

This is a great forum. You'll like it even better than coloradofans.com - less sniping, arguing, and generally people are just way nicer here. |

Well it is a crawler. I personally don’t see a need for 3s. If you want to go fast get a shortcorse truck or 1/8 on 4s I run 2s brushless on both my rigs. Both have a hobby wing based pc progamable sensored 120a esc(Brushlesshobbies and hobbyking xcar 120). Both are super smooth at next to zero speed. And still have enough kick to pop up and over if needed. My scx10 has a 25.5 Novak and my wraith has a 17.5 Novak Top speed is not much faster than I can walk. I could boost the esc’s and blow the tires off, but why? Th suspension isn’t made for speed Brushless isn’t for everybody. They don’t like water. So if you like to get wet stay brushed. 2s or 3s it’s your choice. 3s is great if your gearing is right. If not you could cook the esc. Depending on your driving style 3s will take a toll on the drivetrain |

I've tried both 2s and 3s on my scx10.2. 2s works well, I just prefer the 3s Besides, I was out searching for a smaller mah battery and given the small difference in price, figured i'd try the 3s. I did adjust my gearing down to give more low speed control and temps down. Do enough reading on it, you'll hear a lot of "gear down, volt up". Using a 3s with lower gearing is that exactly. Cant go wrong with either. |

Once you run 3s or more, you'll wonder why you ever ran 2s.

Otherwise, 3s (or more) makes more sense While we’re on the topic, stumbled upon this and got a good laugh out of it
