Axle Length Modification Possible

Hello

I am VERY NEW to this field so excuse me IF this has been asked before.

I was wondering IF it possible to take a 1/10 scale rear axle and lengthen it so that it would fit a 1/6 car. This would NOT be a rock crawler BUT used as a light off road vehicle.

If it could be done, HOW could it be done???? Keep in mind if it is, I am so new to this that I don`t KNOW MOST part termination so PLEASE dumb it down OR pictures would be GREAT!

Thanks for your time and Help.

If this is in the WRONG section, can it be transferred?

George

Losi Super Baja Rey rear axle assembly is what you are looking for. 1/6 scale and beefy. "thumbsup"

Hello

Thanks for the tip. Beefy in the looks and price for a scratch build project though, Sorry should have said also trying to keep control of costs.

Any chance there are less beefy looking versions that are cheaper??? OR used part for sale?

Let me know.
Thanks
George

What is the approximate width you're looking for? What kind of budget are you working with? Besides existing large scale axles, there are several small vendors on this board that can make custom length tubes and shafts.

edit: if you're even a little handy, you could start with 2 Axial AR60 plastic axle housings, cut the short side tube off, and graft on another long side tube using a steel/aluminum/brass/etc sleeve epoxied inside of the plastic axle tubes and end up with a pretty wide (sorry, don't know the exact width) axle using off the shelf parts.

In keeping with the AR60 idea, if you're on a real tight budget, and you don't need it to be stupid-wide, you can use a set of hex extenders. They're not ideal, and they can put a lot of stress on the outer axle bearings, but if you don't hammer the vehicle, it probably won't be an issue.

Something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-12...ss!05350!US!-1

Re: Axle Length Modification Possible

the ar60 are just about perfict for a 1/6 scale rig heres a custom build with a 1/6 truck body with some offset wheels running ar60 or wraith axles
https://i.imgur.com/uilobzfl.jpg

the ar60 axles are cheap about $10-12 for plastic around $20 for pot metal or more for aluminum just for the housings if formsome r3ason you need to go wider you can run spacers
i have some wheels that are narrower and puts the tire more under the fenders
on a 1/5 scale the tires are just inside the fenders

Hello

Thanks to ALL for your replies. I have checked through ebay for the AR60 axles housings. Great price for me in the black plastic BUT is it possible to find them with the diff in the center NOT offset?

Also can some one give me list of what I need to make the housing fully operational?

Thanks again for the help.
George

Centered diff housings are available, but they are aluminum aftermarket versions and fairly pricey.

SSD and Vanquish are the best known...

You'll need the ring and pinion gear for the differential, axles, and depending on the model of housing you will also need lockouts.

Re: Axle Length Modification Possible

yes ssd makes a realy nice plastic axle housing for around $30 with almost everything you need for it
im pretty sure you just need a locker and gears and bearings im sure you can find the ar60 bearings as a set but im not realy sure it might be cheaper to buy them seperetly but shipping is often more than the bearing so buying them all at one time will save you some cash

found one on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/311978550432
the same company makes almost the same axle for the scx10 and the scx10 ii but you need the wraith yeti model he also makes aluminum ones as dose vanquish like home boy sead but there pricy

Re: Axle Length Modification Possible

And I just typed a small novel, only to have it disappear and SSD has an inexpensive plastic one. Nice. HPI Wheelie King or Venture from a chop shop? Once you prove your theory, step up to a MetalConcepts r/c aluminum housing. Miniature Tube Works axle, lower li k mounts are on the bottom, TT style, not on the front, crawler style. No lockouts either. Pics or concept renderings of what you are building, X2??????

Hello the letterJ

My rough tape measurements are:
Front : 6"
Rear : 5 3/4"

As soon as I learn how to post pictures here I will add them.

Budget would be as Best Lowest possible for plastic center axle housings and metal "guts".

Thanks Again for the help
George

Re: Axle Length Modification Possible

dude a 6" wide rig is not 1/6 thats more 1/12 scale i think we need pics and messurments if you only need a 6" wide axle your gona have to move down to like 1/18 scale crawler axles or spend big bucks on a narrow 1/10 axle or narrow some your self i think the scx10ii plastic axle housings should be real easy to cut down if you dont mind the tires sticking out a full sized ar44 should do the trick and at full width your back to having afordable options like metal plastic or aluminum axles and the pumpkin is centered on the ar44s the 1/6 scale rigs are like 11+ inches wide

Re: Axle Length Modification Possible

After reading George's last reply, I was about to say the same thing! Unless he is building a scale ATV there is no way it's a 1:6 scale rig.

Hi

Since I do not have/use photobucket and I have Not paid extra here for a star, I can`t upload pictures from my computer to here of what I want to do.

If you would like to see some pictures of the plastic vehicle.

Could you go to ebay, search for 1/6 Schwimmwagon and have a look.

Let me know what you think.
Thanks

George

Also, is there any other way to show pictures of a build here?
