alot of people use the sidewinder or mamba max but that is a lil overkill though.

Well there isn't a best esc...it all depends on your needs and your driving stile. For a good all around esc get a hh torquemaster. It's good and has some superb suport

sidewinder, mamba max, fxr, brxl ESCs are pretty universally accepted as the best ESCs out there. I went with the HH BR-XL simply due to the level of support I've seen out of HH

If you dont need something small, i would say go with the Holmes ESC. It will run anything you want, and im pretty sure he will ship it to you waterproof.

Sidewinder - best price, great performance, smooth, tons of programming options FXR - better control/power handling than sidewinder, best drag brake, really small! Holmes - Only waterproof option of the three, best BEC, handles everything! BTW - I'm not a huge fan of the XL-5 performance. I'd say pass on the XL-5. Holmes Hobbies all day long! It can handle BIG power, has the best built in BEC, it's small like the Sidewinder, he has them water proof and you won't find better support out there! And the price is great! I don't think anyone can say anything bad about the HH |

I've used the FXR and the Mamba max. FXR doesn't seem as smooth. Has a better drag brake. I had good quality motors on both rigs. I'll stick with the FXR cause of the size. |

i run the momba max pro although it is huge it really does work great. so if space is not an issue then this would be a good choice |

Sorry to jump into an older post but what is everyone's opinion on the Hobbywing 1080 ESC? I'm looking for something that is 3s capable to run a titan 21T 550 motor in my LNC. I know brushless is probably the way to go but I dont want to spend that kind of money.

100% agree with Jato on the 1080. Awesome set-up for Brushed. Very tuneable, fairly small, waterproof, adjustable output votage from 6v-7.4v, and easy to run through all the settings with the program card. Not to mention it's an extremely economical system.
