Default Do some of you not drive your trucks?

I look around this site and i see some AMAZING looking trucks. Clearly some time & $ put into them.

But they look so pristine? How? Are they “garage” queens?

I built some steel panels for my rock rey and painted then with truck bed liner and they were immediately f’d up cause i took it on the rocks in Moab. The chassis plate is dinged and dented. My trailing arms are gouged.

Most of my trucks get driven way less than I wish they did, but when they get driven I tend not to hammer most of them. Once the body finally gets to the point where it's broken, then I tend to hammer the truck until the new body is on, then the cycle starts over!

Although I may take 1 or 2 pictures every week of a given truck, I take a flurry of photos when I have a freshly painted body and new tires. Those are the ones I'm much more likely to post. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that that's what other people do.

I agree, I tend to take lots of pics with new bodies and post those. Once the body gets rock rash I generally don't take any pics of it. That said, I am not particularly hard on my trucks so my bodies tend to last a long time plus I spread my drive time across a half dozen rigs which also reduces wear on any individual chassis.

I drive mine like I stole 'em. But agree with above in that many of the pics of mine are with a fresh body installed. That said, I personally like when my body, axles, sliders, etc begin to show rock rash and wear. If you've ever seen a real 1:1 crawler, they are definitely not pristine.

I used to have a Ram 1500 truck and a coworker who had a heavily modified Jeep Wrangler Rubicon once invited me to join him on a trail run. I couldn't tell from the pristine condition of his truck if he was an excellent driver or if he really didn't take it into gnarly terrain.

I have been posting pictures of my SCX10 4Runner which has a bit of rock rash - particularly some Arizona Pinstripes (even though I live in Colorado)!

I trash everything I gave and it usually looks like it unless I just swapped on a new body.

I did 1:1 buggy bodies for years, expensive ones, where the car mfg would drive them like they stole them. How could you throw a 100-150k car around like that? Now I scratch build, and see the forest through the trees. Not quite sure how you thrash a crawler other than water events, but as pirates woud say, hold no quarter and run it like you stole it, as necessary. I built it the first time, a re-do will happen quicker on the second shot. Heck, my Bomber has a scale ~$10k body on it!!!

All my trucks get driven. Hard bodies do recieve a bit more care, but not much more. Drive train gets upgraded as I break stuff.

It was actually a bomber build that made me post this. It makes me drool but I know if it were mine i probably wouldn’t drive it.

I can build 7 days a week after my kids go to bed, my driving time is limited to a few hours on a weekend every few weeks. That is how I end up with a bunch of barely driven trucks.

If I had all the big $$$ VP parts, bling mobile, that could be a tough sell to thrash it on the rocks, pretty paint and all. After the first scratch, may be another story. Run video showing that the trailer queen is a tomboy at heart would be proof that it gets used. To each his own, there are many cars at glamis that are posers, if you will. All show and no go. If you are content going easy with a show rig, great. In the end it is all about YOUR experience driving anyhow. Mall crawlers are happy at the mall.....

Honestly... in a lot of cases I think that angles, lighting, etc can hide just how scratched and beat a rig truly is. All my rigs are scratched up pretty good yet if they're clean, in the right light, taken from the right angle... they look damn near pristine. Just my personal experience.

Yes this!^^

My Blue F150 has been driven hard for 3 years now, glued back together and bent back into shape. She still looks good in pictures though.

I'm usually pretty easy on mine until they get a few scratches, then I just drive normally.

I havent been crawling much within the past year though. Got one truck that hasnt been powered on in about 10 months, a Pimpin Rocks build that has been 5 minutes of work away from being done for about 6 months, and a new 1.9 Wraith that I havent driven yet.

I hate to admit it but I don't drive mine much at all. I love the challenge of the build and customization. I spend so much time building and starting new projects there is little time on the trails. That being said I build everything to take a beating before it sits on the shelf. :-)
