I use weight sparingly in or on the wheels as a last ditch tuning effort. I don't even consider it until all other options are exhausted.

In point of fact, liquid filled tires are common in virtually all forms of farm and construction power units to increase ground traction by adding weight to the vehicle. However, liquid weight is not the same as attached weight since it's movement inside the tire is dynamic meaning that the liquid can flow around inside the tire as the tire rolls. Therefore, liquid weight has a lower Moment of Inertia compared to a cast iron or lead wheel weight fixed to a wheel. In any case, wheel weights fixed to the wheels will slow down both acceleration and deceleration not to mention that downhill momentum will tend to keep the vehicle rolling downhill. Think heavy flywheel vs light flywheel. While the effect of MOI is not as pronounced in a slow crawler it is never the less still present. | |

My dad keeps putting lead shot in his tires. It's terrible I don't suggest it.

I remember when ax10's use to weigh in at 10lb's on a comp day... A Dlux knuckle will outperform any weight added to a stock MFR wheel, or scale wheel. Why have 2-3 stock rigs when you can have 1 sweet rig? I'm not trying to be negative, or make a joke of myself. Putting it out there that weight placement matters. But for the general trail guy, whatever works best for you. |

Curious to see what the brass portal covers and brass lower links will do on a redcat gen 8. Hopefully it helps counter act the weight of the body.
