Help Planning a Build (TRX4 Sport)

Hello all,

I am new to the hobby and I have always wanted to build a kit version of an rc crawler. I have decided to order the TRX4 Sport kit. I will be using the truck for mainly trail riding. I can purchase the kit for $280 however I do not own any electronics or even a radio. I was hoping that someone could recommend what electronics to use in my rig. I am wanting to keep the truck under the ready-to-run price of $340 if possible. If that is unrealistic I suppose I could increase my budget to around $370. I have really been struggling to find electronics that are compatible with the kit so any help or advice will be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Alot of people run the hobbywing 1080 esc. It really rather popular. Im runnin a holmes hobbies trailmaster 550 21t brushed motor n i love it. Servo, ive got 3 or 4 powerhd 20kg waterproof servo n have no issues with any of them. As far as a radio goes, its all preferance

For the TX/RX look on ebay for a Traxxas TQi that someone has replaced on their TRX4. You can usually find them around $60. The HW1080 and HH Trailmaster 550 21T is arguably the best ESC/motor combo for a tick over $60. Add a Savox1230SG for around $70.

Power hd 20kg servo... $22
Hobby wing 1080 esc $42
HH trailmaster 21t $20
Takeoff Traxxas tx/rx $60

Over budget for sure. And that is a budget list, about as low as I would want to go.

You might want to think about a rtr. They are hard to beat to get started, and make your budget.

Kits are highly over rated. Snag an rtr and tear it apart if you want the experience.

Keep an eye out for some used stuff, lonelycreeper’s list is a good starting point for sure. The 25kg amazon servo is a decent get too.

Deff going over budget. But you will learn the entire time you are doing this, which is priceless. I am doing the exact same thing.

I've got a stock radio from a tactical edition I'd sell.

Although you would never need the extra channels. Might I recommend a FlySky GT3C. Usually around $40 and it had a rechargeable battery included.

Just go RTR, the only thing you get over the kit is the rack and scale accessories. Also, don't forget batteries and charger. I'm waiting on a kit, but I have everything else I need. Plus I'm going to sell the body, accessories, wheels and tires. Makes more sense for me to go that route.
