How to discharge LiPo for storage

Sorry, I searched and read so much my head is spinning...

My LiPo battery charger does not discharge, it only charges. So how does or what does a newbie do or buy or whatever to discharge his battery (easily) for storage? Battery is 5200 mAh 2S 50c 7.4v

Simple answer buy a charger that has storage functions. Nothing else is convenient.

Put it in your truck and drive it until it is at the voltage you want to store it at?

Charger is a simple Dynamite Prophet Sport Mini - no discharge function.

Maybe something like: Targerthobby 3 IN1 50W Discharger Voltage Tester Balancer For Lipo Battery https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ET162I4..._JfnaDbHQK0DH8

Re: How to discharge LiPo for storage

I have one of these ISDT dischargers.

https://www.amainhobbies.com/isdt-fd...fd-100/p700374

Pretty much every charger these days has an incredibly weak discharge function, 1-2 amps at most. This take forever if you have high capacity packs. The ISDT discharger can do 2-3 cell packs at 6 amps so it is much quicker but not so high that it is going to throw off the balance of the pack too much if there is a weak cell. The voltage cutoff is adjustable with an optional PC link but out of the box, it brings the packs down to storage charge level.

Yes, best to just run it down then if you don't have a charger capable, or if you don't want to purchase something new

The problem with just running it down is you don't know the voltage or whether or not it is balanced. Not a great way to store lipo batteries.

Those battery balancers that don't charge can take a long time to balance the battery, and what if the voltage is off.

For twice the cost you can get a skyrc b6 mini that will do everything you need and more. Only thing it won't do is check IR.

OK, so I see this guy...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-SKY...oAAOSwN3NcP-pW

and it's quite affordable, but how long (guestimate) does it take to discharge (to storage) a fully charged 5200 mAh 2S 50c 7.4v battery at a max of 2 amps?

Bout an hour, maybe hour and a half. But also less chance of it heating up as well, so safer. I run it on the desk next to my computer. Easy to spend that much time there.

Those chargers are known to have dodgy components on occasion. I'd be inclined to get a Turnigy Accucell 6 directly from Hobbyking instead. The Turnigy is not infallible either but has a far better track record, especially when you're trusting to do something potentially dangerous (dealing with lipos).

Storage charge is about 40-50% charged. So assuming that 60% of the charge has to be removed from a fully charged 5.2Ah battery at a rate of 2Amps:
Discharge time = 0.60*5.2/2 = 1.56hours

onboard Volt Meters are cheap.

same with a digital charger.
