Exclamation New to crawling and just got the Element RC Senduro

So i just got the Element RC Senduro and really excited to take it out to some rocks. As i was driving it around the house i noticed that when it goes pretty fast in reverse vs going forward. Is this normal w/ a rock crawler?

Not normal, but it happens.

The first thing to do is to zero all of the trims on the radio and them recalibrate the ESC to the radio's throttle.

It is also possible the throttle on the radio is reversed and the motor leads are backwards.

The ESC is actually running in reverse but with the motor wires backwards, it will spin the opposite direction so everything appears correct. Reverse ends up faster because a lot of brushed ESCs can pass more amps in the forward direction than in reverse.

also try not to "drive it around the house" much. the overdrive front wheels don't play nice with the rear unless you are on dirt.

Are you trolling Element? #never used an overdriven truck before!!
If it cant drive around a house how well is it gonna do on the rocks?

I disagree with this statement.

you, sir, are correct.

I also noticed this same thing with mine as well. The reverse is too touchy, a small reset often meant running backwards out of control off a ledge... May have to just go get a HW1080 today at lunch.... got em in my TRX4-Sport and Gen 8, might as well add another to the family...

taking notes here... i might try swapping the motor wires and running the TX throttle reversed.

huh. might have to try that. i made a crazy assumption freewheel = no drag brake. looks like i need to do some experimenting... once my 79 ford ascender is drivable.

Its a 70/30 transmitter so the reverse is super touchy. That is normal. You can tone it down with a different ESC. not much that can be done on the transmitter, but turning up the d/r on the throttle channel will help smooth it out at small throttle amounts.

so if i swapped to a different tx/rx…?
bummer as i actually like the RTR radio gear for the 3rd channel.

ironically i bought a 4 ch. radiolink for a winch setup but discovered none of the channels are 3 position lol woops!

Even knowing what it does I still set it backwards quite often cause the name is so misleading.

Nah, with a hobbywing 1080 just set the reverse to 50%

Go do figure 8s in a paved parking lot with a full size truck in 4wd and see how long it takes to break an axle or a pinion. Having mismatched gear ratios is fine as long as there's a little bit of slip, but on high grip surfaces, it's going to ruin something. Best case scenario is that it just causes excessive wear to some of the gears, but it could break a gear or an axle depending on how stupid you get on the carpet.

Back in the 90s when I worked at an auto repair shop, we kept getting a customer who blew out his transfer case on his xj Cherokee. Got like 3 rebuilds from us under warranty. We later found out this clown was driving around constantly in 4 high.

Don’t ever do figure 8s in a 1:1 HMMWV outside the motor pool with your Captain watching. You will wind up mopping the deck, outside, in a rain storm.

Ask me how I know.
