Default Which waterproof servo?

Which waterproof servo do you guys suggest for 1/10 crawlers? (scx-10)

I have found online a Savox 0231 MG High Torque Digital servo. Would that one be suitable? Or do you guys suggest a different one?

Im running my servo direct from my 2s lipo

^ neither of those come waterproof tho'

Not too hard to do yourself IMO
and most truely waterproof servo's seem
to be lacking the torque a crawler would want.

My recommendations... (and waterproof it yourself)

1.9 = 400 - 500 oz/in

2.2 = 500 - 600 oz/in

The Hitec servo's are worthy components
but, for less coin...
The Savox SA-1230SG gets it done too.

tho' waterproofing is solely the buyer's responsibility.

IMO the Savox SW-0231MG is too weak to be installed in a crawler
that's sporting tall crawler tires.

I sorry for misleading you all. It only says water resistant. The Holmes Servo is listed as water resistant as well.

Default Which waterproof servo?

For 1.9 rigs, I like the Savox 1210 and RC4WD Twister Ultimate High Performance Waterproof servo. Both offer >270 oz-inch of torque (which is plenty for a 1.9 rig), are WP out of the box, are plenty quick, and are priced in the $75-83 range. The Xpert 6000 and 7000 series servos are also excellent with even more torque, but priced a bit higher at $99 each. I have plenty of run time on all 4 of those and have never had a failure.

With all that said, I don't see the need for 400 oz-inch or more on a narrow axled 1.9 rig, so I would recommend the first two for an SCX-10.

As far as waterproofing your own servo, do it at your own risk. The warranty will be voided even If the servo fails for a reason unrelated to the waterproofing.

The same can be said for the motors output...
you don't need a whole lot of torque to crawl per say.
But to crawl with authority... ya do.

So to crawl well and without concern of tire steering stall when in a bind
having more is better then not having enough.

My 500 oz/in servo turning my SCX-10's 1.9's (4.65 tires)
does so with extreme authority and is rarily denied.
Either the rocks are pushed outta the way...
or the rig will push opposing and change it's line/direction.
But steering stall does not exist/occur.

As the current 1.9 tires trend towards bigger and taller
they're fast approacing 2.2 tire heights.

And so... a more powerful servo (torque) is needed to turn them well.

Having 500 oz/in is great on my 1/10 1.9 crawler...
but the same servo turning my 2.2 PL TSL SX/XL's (5.80")
offer less turning authority.

Is it enough ? Maybe...
but I'll suppose the would depend on whom you ask.

My 2.2 crawler is hoping it can afford an upgrade
to a 600 oz/in servo... sooner then later.

because for me... "just enough" is not enough.

I don't need savox, I use a budget friendly one.. powerHD at 4.8V using only the power from AE-5 (internal BEC)

water + mud + sand
it's pretty much watertight.. we all got our own preferences

Yup, And most of us want servos with steel or titanium gears. That one you linked is copper and aluminum. Two pretty soft metals.. :/

I guess its better than plastic, But I wouldn't trust that in a crawler. Maybe a go fast with a servo saver to protect those gears.

hahahaaa true, where I located the real price for those titanium gears servos just wouldn't add up for my wallet..

the one I use cost just about $20 I have a few spares if this one gave up on me

+1 to that. It's very easy to waterproof a servo and will save you a lot of money by doing it yourself. All you need is plasti-dip, and grease and a small o-ring if your servo doesn't already have that inside. There are loads of tutorials on it and it is very simple to do.

Im new to crawling but have always used and still do Savox in my fully loaded Savage MT. However on building my wraith spawn kit I decided to try something else... All i can say is wow! Spektrum RC S6280 Digital Ultra Torque Servo (High Voltage/Metal Case)... More power at 6V than any of my Savox servos and waterproof out-of-the-box.

364 oz-in (26.2kg-cm) @ 6V has been more than enough for my Wraith Spawn. The upgrade path is simple from this point - add a BEC and pump 7.4v through it for 440oz-in (31.7kg).

I teamed this servo with the Spectrum SRS4210 waterproof receiver and am running a spectrum glitch buster - worx like a dream. If you can spend the extra money I think you will be extremely satisfied with this high quality combo ...

Hey all, I have a TRX4 Sport, and thanks to my 145lb. dog, I have gone thru two Traxxas 2075's. I was wondering what your ideas are on the Savöx SW1211SG Waterproof Coreless Digital Servo .10/208.3 with Aluminum Mid Case. Is this a good servo for crawling, and if so, do I need to purchase a seperate BEC? I'm running the Traxxas 3025 XL-5 HV, with either 2S or 3S LiPo (I have both).

In the electronic section we have a thread about serveral servos.
For example What the newest cheap servo hotness?

The savöx 1211sg will need a external bec, cause it could consume up to 6A and your esc build-in bec is only rated 1A.
