Default bashing vs crawling

ok a really basic question that ive been unable to answer via the google.

can someone define the basic terms that define the kind of trucks we use and how we use them?

I see bashing and crawling as the 2 that are used the most.

I have a RC4WD Gelände 2 defender 110, thats going to get built as a 1/10 copy of my 1/1 truck. I'm assuming that makes me a basher? or are their other terms I'm missing?

I'm not going to do competitions, races, etc. I'm just going to drive it around.

thanks,

Default bashing vs crawling

Here’s a video to illustrate.

Orange truck = bashing
Yellow truck = crawling

To add some words, bashing involves high speeds, jumps, skids, and other aggressive driving. It often happens without the driver travelling very far.

Crawling involves much slower driving. The objective is to drive the vehicle over challenging terrain and obstacles.

Sitting between the two is trailing, where vehicles travel larger distances at slow to medium speeds, over terrain of moderate difficulty.

By Traxxas' definition: "In the RC world, bashing is racing without rules or regulations. It's just driving and testing the limits of your RC car or truck.

But I'd also say that the definition is pretty open to interpretation and encompasses some grey area. When my buddy and I run Slash's or Stampede's, we refer to that as bashing ( usually jumping is involved also). When we plan to run forest trails, creek beds, and the like... we call that trailing. And when we want to run slow and technical on rocky terrain, we call that crawling.

I believe you are thinking of "Kit bashing". When you take parts from different kits and meld them into one rig. My scx10II axles under my Scx10 chassis would be a perfect example.

"Bashing" on this site refers normally to running high speed rigs on unprepared surfaces. Aka running my Baja rey in an open field nearby.

"Crawling" often refers to the technical driving, rock crawlers or scale rigs will do on the trail, or rocks.

thanks everyone.
no I was not referring to kit-bashing, but just driving style. I was assuming that all crawling took place on really challenging terrain and with modified trucks (sort of like in the real world.) apparently there is a middle version.

I'm trying to make some upgrades. batteries probably first and in the thread I was reading, people were saying that certain kinds of batteries work better for certain kinds of driving, and I needed to figure out what kind of driving I plan on doing.

I think trailing is the answer, so I should pay more attention to the stuff about rock crawling, rather stuff about bashing, correct?

I like trailing a lot!

Most of my tiny truck driving is trail driving in fact....Trail Honcho, For Trailing

Ultimate Adventuring Bronco

There are two types of trail drivers trucks out there. The performance oriented, and the dollhouse truck.

Two perfect Youtube examples... Harley, and SBG(Scale Builders Guild). Harley builds rigs to perform well and look good, but if the truck does not have a performance lean he is not intrested.

Sgb on the other hand is all about looks, and if they move under their own power, then its even better.

Its fun to watch, esp when they do live streams together.

To me, there is not a difference, other than crawling you are climbing something, going slow, going technical; bashing, you are running your truck however the spirit moves you.

For me, the real dividing line is between crawling/bashing and competing...
