Are aluminum "upgrades" frowned upon?

For most of us go fast bashers aluminum parts are frowned upon too heavy too fragile.
I know they have some that are a good upgrade but for the most part they just weaken your rig. Is it the same for crawlers or is the extra weight and strength worth it. I am speaking of quality parts not the chinesium stuff that floods Amazon and Ebay.

Certain areas and parts are definitely worth it. Whats parts are you thinking? Knuckles and chubs are absolute must for any rig for me. From there it depends on what im building.

I just picked up a scx10 that is almost all aluminum and I was wondering if I should finish it out or leave it as is. Probably my 7th or 8th scx10 but I never really changed much just beat them the way they came.

Aluminum is good on the areas that need more strength, axles, transmission, etc... things like the RX box, battery tray, crossmembers don’t really need to be aluminum. Biggest thing is stay away from chanquish parts.

Re: Are aluminum "upgrades" frowned upon?

Nope, not looked down upon at all. Aluminum parts are definitely a very important part of building a solid rig. Personally if I see a rig that's kitted out in strategic areas that Jeeper mentioned, I tend to think 'oh, looks like they've got their stuff together and have a pretty solid rig." If you want your truck to be a little more aesthetically pleasing you can get small nonessential aluminum "upgrades" to compliment the paint job. Like I've got a blue accented SCX-10 so I bought some blue shock hoops. Did I need them? No. Do they look nice? Yeah! You get the idea"thumbsup" Happy crawling!

Some people will use brass parts specifically because if the extra weight. There are usually on the axle somewhere to get the mass down low and help lower the CG of the truck.

Came from a pawn shop via Ebay and who ever did the build spent some cash.... vanquish stuff all over panhard mount cms HH torque master HH crawlmaster pro motor jevne racing battery relocation kit. But did not upgrade servo or axel housings so those are next. Best $200 I have spent in a while.

If it is an OG SCX10 then I would leave the stock housings, if it is an SCX10 II go for either SSD diamond axles, or Pro44s.

Here’s my setup. I’m running stock housings with VP internals, and a VP Stage 1 kit. Crawls pretty well and the housings are cheap if I need to replace them

Very nice looks similar to the setup on mine.

Re: Are aluminum "upgrades" frowned upon?

Thanks! Yeah if that is the setup you are running it is pretty capable. Outperforms my 10.2 in some instances.
