Lubricant Or Shock Absorber Oil
 

I am building a 1/6 scale Samurai and the instructions state:

Axles and shock absorbers are pre-installed for check, which does not represent the final result. It needs to be re-disassembled and re-debugged with lubricant or shock absorber oil.


Do you guys recommend I use lubricant or shock absorber oil? Which specific brand and model number should I go with? Thanks.


Also, another instruction states:

Use thread-locking fluid to connect shock absorber rod with elastic joint.


Can I use Loctite Stick (blue, medium strength) for this?

Shock oil for the shocks, lubricant (grease) for the axles is how I would read that. I think it's just a bad translation that's discussing two separate issues (lubricant for axles and shock oil for shocks) in one sentence and making it confusing...

I've never done anything 1/6 but I would think that something that large would be better with thicker oils. 60-80wt maybe? I usually use Team Associated brand but I'm sure any brand of Silicone Shock Oil would be fine, the viscosity is probably more important than the brand name.

For greasing the axles, I use Phil Wood Waterproof grease because I already have it, but almost any grease will work. Lots of people seem to use Lucas Red and Tacky.

For thread locking, yes you can use that type, it's actually my favorite because it's easy to apply to small bolts without making too much mess. But thread lock should only be used only metal-metal connections.

Thanks for the info on the Lucas Red and Tacky. I've been reading a lot about what kind of shock weight to get and know a lot of variables go into selecting the right weight.

So my shocks are not very hard or soft, I would say they are right in the middle as far as how they feel. Now, I do want to add accessories to my Samurai, roof rack, metal front and rear bumpers, so I am thinking of going with a thicker oil. What do you think about 80wt? The Samurai weighs 15 pounds. Would 90 or 100wt be overkill? I'd going to use this mainly for crawling and trails and would like the Samurai to ride and turn realistically.

Yeah, I think you're in the right ballpark with those weights, 80-100. But having never built a 1/6 scale I can't really say so with much confidence. But it seems like that should be about right..

These capos are amazing trucks. The detail and functionality is beyond any production scale crawler I've seen. That being said, will you, or do you have a build thread for this rig?
