Gearing

Hi all, i know it’s not really crawler related but i plan to convert a crawler. My end goal is to create a scaler 2wd pre runner out of an Scx10ii. I already have the element ifs and I’m working on trailing arms but it’s the gearing that’s got me. I want to gear for speed i need some guidance. I’m open to designing and 3d printing my own gear box housing if needed to get rid of the extra output. Will I grenade my diff if i run just a spur and pinon? I want to know if people have done this before? What gears were used? Also can it be done with stock gears(lcx trans)? I’m not very familiar with gear reductions and haven’t seen much setups for wheel speed anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure with a suitable brushless motor, 3 or 4s and the tallest pinion/spur combo that fits, you'll have more than enough speed. Don't know how the gear ratio compares between a scx10 ii and a trx4 2 speed but a 3000ish kv motor in 2nd gear hauls ass in a trx4.

hardly and sbg did one of there build offs seeing how fast a scx10ii could go they go in to alot of details on how they got them to go faster

I made a cheap bushed bandit haul ass with the "right" gearing but having to buy a new motor every 10-15 minutes (or less sucked). Your motor will over heat and burn out. Than I went fast motor and ESC setup on 6S and had unreal power but that presented other problems. I traded it all for a Nice Wraith 2.2. It now is on 4s, pretty fast and still a work in progress but it is manageable.

Get the right motor for speed and it will last you much longer and have fun!

I might take the high gear set out of a 2 speed and see if i can design a 2wd case out of that. Any input on if that would function right?
