Default Complete newb to RC. Thinking about building a Wrangler.

I'm still pretty fresh into any kind of research so I was looking for resources and found this forum.

Is my best best a SCX10 frame kit, then finding a body? I want to mimic my '02 Jeep Wrangler (TJ). I've seen a few with NewBright bodies. Am I on the right track, or do you guys have some other recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Edit: Forgot to mention, I do have a 3D printer that I think will definitely come in handy for stuff!

Tamiya makes a TJ body, for an ok price. Your best bet might definitely be the scx10.2 raw builders kit. Plenty of options and upgrades and probably the easiest to make fit. I also like the ssd trail king option, would like to build up one of those some day.
I don’t have a printer myself but that will definitely come in handy

Newbright body was small... Tamiya is as well I believe( also a YJ). 10" wheelbase can be pushed out to 10.5" is you want a stretched look and or bigger tires... HPI had one years ago, I have it on my Wraith...

I built my TJ on a barrage chassis a few years ago...

Personally, I start with the body and pick a chassis to fit. I would pick the SSD Trail King over a SCX10 builder kits. The transmission/transfer case allows for deeper interior. Plus the aluminum chubs, knuckles, shocks, To links and metal Panhard mount make it worth the extra $70.00. With the 4Runner body, everything clears without chopping up the interior.

why not buy the tamiya tj kit its not the most scale option but its cheap reliable and comes with the body already
they can be upgraded down the line once the op gets more familure with the world of rc

looks like they might have discontinued that one for now its tamiya so they will rerelease it a dozen times more before the world ends lol.
i found a few for sale but there around $600 way to much

You can pickup the Tamiya Jeep body, and install it easily on a MST CFX or CMX chassis - better performance than a Tamiya CC01 chassis - and cheap, to boot.

He said Wrangler, wants to mimic his 1:1 Tj...

He might be able to find the files for 3d printing the body in a scale that would fit a 12" or so wheelbase. The smaller rigs(mst) would fit better under the smaller body's Tamiya or Newbright if they can be found.
