how much runtime, size, and weight you willing to deal with? Lipo isnt always expensive, especially in a crawler. No more money than a good nimh pack. What size crawler is it?

savageman,

Whenever johnrobholmes tells you something about electronics,
you'd be best advised to listen very carefully to him.

He IS the man when it comes to this chit

Send him a PM or Email, he'll hook you up

im building a c10 2.2 rig with a k2-3l chassis, tlt axles, and stampede tranny. im pretty sure im gonna put a 5t lathe motor in it and it will be mostly a trail rig since there is very little rock in iowa.

i run 8 cell 2/3a 1500 packs from Holmes. i get like 40 mins plus of runtime and tons of power. they are also very small and light. perfect for putting it on top of the servo. take a look at the "over the servo" battery configuration. wish i would of got that. talk to Holmes he will hook you up.

Any motor from 35t to 55t will be a good one. Since you are using brushed I would keep with nimh cells. For decent runtime the 2/3a size cells are great, but if you have the room and ability to carry heavier cells then sub-C can give you long runtimes. Elite and IB are the two major brands that still make quality cells. If you have a radio shack around you can get older gp 3300 cells which are great for what you are doing.

Charger, I would recommend the hyperion 5i. It is all that I use unless charging a huge lipo.

i run either a 3600 or 3700 subc nimh battery on my clod buster (two motors, 55t's) that weighs 15 lbs. I get a little over 1.75 hrs on each battery. I was originally gonna go brushless with lipo batteries but with the run time i get now, no need for it. I use the duratrax piranha charger that i got from www.towerhobbies.com. It's very easy to use and charges batteries well.

My charger:

Similar battery:

Here's where most of us get our batteries:

you can custom build whatever size battery you want.

Here's some info on batteries from the electronic forum:

The Duratrax Piranha charger muddeprived recommended is great. I own one. I also have a Duratrax ICE that I love. The ICE can be difficult and very complicated, but if you read the instructions it is well worth it. Ebay is a great place for new batteries. Always try to buy new batteries, used batteries never seem to last well, at least in my experience. If your experienced, buying batteries from places like Fry's Electronics and building your own packs can save you money and get you better quality packs for cheaper. Good luck.
