noob ? - BEC

Ok, WHAT is a BEC? From what I've read, it seems like some sort of voltage regulator or something? Am I way off?

BEC stands for Battery Eliminating Circuitry. They are just voltage regulators for the electronics to run on. In the old days we had to use receiver packs to power the electronics, thus the term BEC came about.

It seems like most people who use them have multiple servos and/or lots of gadgets, but would you see an advantage using one with a single or dual servos?

A BEC is circuitry built into most speed controls, it's not a seperate unit. It's not like you'd be wasting your money buying a seperate unit to run only one sevro - it's built right in. So yeah, the advantage of running even a single servo is that you won't need and RX pack.

In fact, a speed control's BEC is best suited for one or maybe two servos. There are a few exceptions (Castle's Mamba Max has a particularly beefy BEC), but most speedo's BECs weren't meant to handle multiple servos.
