Scale crawlers are being debated as being the most expensive to build. Even the TLT 2.2 comp rig starts at around $500 and that's considered the cheapest. Best bet might be to start scale (Ford HiLift) or start crawler (AX-10) then start turning one into the other as your budget allows.

Just a thought. I think if you got a WK and a body for a MGT/TNX (which is wider than a standard lexan body) Then do some link lengthening with some longer drive shafts.

It can be done. Mine cost me under $400 if you substitute standard electronics and standard wheels. But I did buy EVERYTHING second-hand. Typical TJ Scaler madhatter is probably on to something. If it were me, I'd ditch the stock tranny and chassis in favor of a stampede or stealth tranny and a scale chassis like a K2 series or MFM Racing chassis. Including the price for new suspension links, you should be in the $350-360 range.

Build it from scratch. I build a my chassis from Ace Hardware tubed steel for less than $10. Get some misc. items off Ebay and your set.
