If I change to a smaller pinion gear but keep the same spur gear, won't this give my crawler more torque? I think I'm geared too high. When I get in some crawling situations, the tires get pinched or hung up, they get to where they won't turn even though I have the throttle wide open. I've noticed at this point, I'm getting a overcurrent signal from my esc because I can see the RED LED come on. So I'm hoping changing the pinion will give me more bottom end grunt. Any ideas? Thanks DC

Yes, going to a smaller (less teeth) pinion will help. To get more torque, you may want to consider a lathe motor as well. I generally run a 55T for torque and I still have decent wheel speed.

What gearing you got now? Axles? Tranny? Motor? Size/type and quantity of cells? All these things need to be concidered when figuring out why your stalling out. If you want to unleash some power, loose the brushes Lathe motors work well and have for a long time. Brushless power is a nice thing. Just depends on what you want.

Well I fixed my problem. Instead of changing pinions, i dug around my old electric airplane stuff and found and old GD-600 gearbox I had left over from an older project. I did a search and read all I could find about adding it to my crawler. I'll try to link some pics here soon. It might look unorthodox but it really works great. It cooled my 55t motor down and makes the battery pack last almost twice as long as before, and solved the stalling problem. Its got tons of torque now!!! Plus it moved the motor forward over the front axle for better weight transfer. Also on a cool factor, its gotta be at least a 8!!! ha ha Thanks DC
