I'm going to start my cage as soon as my body gets here (I decided to get a tj rubicon body as my blackfoot body was really beat). Anyway I have a 220 mig welder that I was going to use to weld the brake line together. I'm wondering could I braze it instead of weld? Is the welding better. I know I have to clean them up after its all done to get the joints to look good. What would you guys recommend? Also a tube bending question: How do you guys get such tight bends? I have a brake line bending tool, but I don't think I can get tight right angle bends. I was thinking of making a jig with a dowel to do the bends. Any help is appreciated. Kevin

Yes, in fact brazing is the preferred method for making tubers out of brake line. You have to be very careful with a welder not to burn through the thin walled material. Clean up joints with a grinder and sandpaper. There's lots of options for tube benders out there. I haven't seen anyone using anything special on here. How tight of angles are you looking for? It seems to me that most angles can be achieved using the $15 Harbourfreight tubing bender. Chris

Brazing is the easiest method, check out the Tools and Procedures for all the answers you will need. The following are the first 2 posts you should read. Double J and Mr.Pink have great brazing tips and video. Brazing Video Gimbal shows a few jig set-ups and bending tips. Tuber construction

I came up with the idea of using a very small, about 1/4 in, pulley wheel mounted to a bench for bending. You put the tube in the space underneath against the bench and lift. You pull it as you go to get nice smooth bends. You can actually mount several sizes on a 2x4 or somthing and mount/clamp it down. That way you can get many diameters of bends very easily.

Use rod for real tight bends. Welding brake line is a PITA, braze it.
