Default why reverse rear clod axle?

I have noticed on some of the pimp cane builds that they are reversing the rear axle so that the motor faces rearward. It would seem that this would drag the ground when traversing a steep incline. What are you thoughts on this?

Why would you think that? Reversing the axle doesn't make the clearance of the center diff any different. It just gets the motor side out of the way so the tires meet any verticle faces instead of the motor mount area.

I am totally new to this, but it sure looks like to me this would hit. sort of like the overhang on a pickup truck trying to crawl. I used to crawl with a guy that had a toyota truck, it would hit all the time. Once he bob'd the overhang of the bed it was a nasty truck.

You have to remember there are going to be 6+" tires on there it only sticks out a small amount behind the tires. Comparing it to the yota you mentioned it's no different than haveing the leafs stick out just past the tires.

This is the reason I have never used it. I guess you could argue that the center of gravity is lower on climbs giving stability. I don't know I still just prefer them the right way.

Same reason I never did it, Mnster. Might not make a huge difference, but it is about 1/15th of the vehicle weight in most cases.

Ok my Super and 2.2 Are set up this way. I can climb up a Vertical Face till the rears touch that same Vertical Facing and can climb them with ease. I'm not sure how much more stability you would need or get..

Anyway, It makes the biggest Difference on 2.2's... Since 2.2's run smaller tires. The Motor (when facing forward) hits on everything. Way before the Tires would. So when one flipped the Rear axle. Then your dragging it accros the Rocks instead of slamming it into them which will stop forward movement. To each their own, but like I said.. It makes the biggest difference and helps the most on 2.2's...

Also you can look at it this way.... If your rear axle is flipped and is pointing the same way the front is. Then your front axle and rear axle of the same advantage to clear objects. If the Rear axle is facing normal you mat have to pick a different line to keep your motor from hitting.

Alright one thing to add... I've had guys order them Flipped then, re-Order and new backbone Not Flipped... and I always get an E-mail or another order for a Flipped Backbone.

There are so many what if's and theory's. It's something you just have to try and run yourself to find what set up you think gives you the Best Advantage.

Gives more clearance to clear those undercuts that so many ledges have.

As you can see from the little diagrams, there are pro's and con's to both set-ups. It's up to you to decide.

These are all great posts and ideas on this. I really appreciate the input here! How many supers are running a reversed rear? I would have to say, aesthetically speaking, it look cooler reversed.
