Default Front and Rear Gearing

I did a search and did not find the answer to a question I have about Clod based Crawlers.

What is the thinking in using different gear ratio's between the front and rear axles?

Just like in a 1:1, if the ratios are different, the wheels will turn at different speeds and eventually cause binding and then breaking of parts.

I am running an 8 tooth pinion in the rear and a 9 tooth in the front to help reduce the stall.
I haven't had any problems with this setup, and I do believe that a bunch of people are doing the same thing I am.

It's to try to overcome clodstall. Most people will run 1 tooth more in the front axle. Also, some will run motor with more torque in the rear like a 55T in front and 65T in the rear. It won't hurt anything in a Clod as there is no mechanical link between the two axles.

True, I didn't even think of that.

Amp draws are different, not a good thing.

I've been running 55T in front and 65T in back now for a while. Seems to do pretty well

It's been proven running 2 different pinions doesn't change Clod Stall. The best way to fight Clod stall is running Dual ESC's. Run what ever pinion gives you the gearing and speed you want. One thing I have found out thou. The lower the gearing and higher volts will hold off the Clod stall a little longer. The stall come into effect when there is binding or to much traction and not enough power to over come. Lower the gears and throw more volts will lesson the chances of Stalling.

your able to run a tooth or two difference in the pinion gearing. For example you can purchase a 4.10 r&p for a real truck for the rear, and a 4.11 r&p for the front and run fine. If you were to do lets say a 4.56 in the rear and 4.11 in the front, well yes you will have binding. The gears for the front will spin at a different speed than the rear causing it to bind.

Where, exactly, will it bind? Where the driveshafts attach to the transmission??

Remember, this is on a Clod....
