| Looking at a Cheap Plane Set-Up
Well, I have really been wanting a plane, just a park flyer to play around with. I was thinking about this. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...ess_w/_4_Servo This radio. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s..._(Mode2__72mhz) And this charger. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s.../_Wall_adapter I really just want something to play around with. I used to fly a few years ago, but haven't touched a plane in the past year, I want something small(something that can easily fit in the Monte) and something electric, also a cheap(er) price tag helps. I would prefer a high wing plane as I'm not looking to do any aerobatics or anything like that. What do you guys think about the plane, radio, and charger I posted? Also, if this needs to be in Chit Chat, could a moderator please move it. Thank you, Shaun |

I'd suggest getting a plane where you can get replacement parts quickly like the Super Cub. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ7100 Last edited by JasonInAugusta; 07-26-2008 at 02:32 AM. |

Thanks for the info JIA, and you brought up a good point, the last park flyer I bought, I had a bad landing and broke the fire wall, there wasn't anything to do other than buy a new plane. Are there any other options? Like something with 4 channels? I'm thinking about getting two of those with the X-port Dog Fight modules, it would be some fun with my dad, and I think they would be pretty easy to handle. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=HBZ4020 What about the Parkzone cub? My hobby town has ALOT of parkzone parts. http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=PKZ4500 Also I forgot to ask, can I do a rolling take off with one of these? Are airfield is paved. I have decided to get the Brushless Park Zone Cub. The price seems great at only $159 and theres two hobby shops in town that sell the parts. Thank you JIA, I almost made a big mistake with the other plane. I'm still curious about a rolling take off? |

I'd go with the Super Cub. It's larger than the PZ BL Cub. Larger means heavier and more mass so it'll be more stable in the same wind conditions. The Super Cub is also more durable than the PZ Cub which is basically a thin foam shell for a fuse. Think foam picnic plates. The Super cub will take off from grass without issue. Switch to a 3-cell lipo and it really wakes up. Some of the local guys have converted theirs to run ailerons. If you want 4 channels check out the PZ Brushless T-28 Trojan. that's a great step up from the Super Cub. |

Alright, thanks for the help, man! I have noticed there are alot of RTF 3ch planes out there for under $200, do you think any of these would be to much for me? I have flown before, a few years back, I had a .46 4 channel trainer. Park Zone Focke Wulf 190 Park Zone P-51D Mustang I'll probably end up with the Super Cub though. The PZ warbirds have the same foam shell construction as the PZ BL Cub so they don't withstand damage as well as the Super Cub.

I have one of these: It hit the ground and broke the fuselage in half, but I have the replacement parts. Also broke the prop, not sure if I have that. It's brushless, have parts to fix it, has radio, battery, and charger. If you want it $100 shipped. It may also have a stripped servo, can't remember. |

Jason I sent you a PM So, I plan on picking up a Super Cub tomorrow, is there anything else that I should pick up with it? Will it be safe to charge the battery on my Super Brain 960 at 1.5 amps? Thanks, Shaun |

I'm putting together another Slow Stick with some upgrades. I want an easy to fly platform to start playing around with arial photography. I'll probably go with this camera. I've built 2 other Slow Sticks and know how to set them up and fly them pretty well. http://www.hobby-lobby.com/video-camera.htm If the Slow Stick and video camera works out I might go with a Magpie and a better camera: http://www.mountainmodels.com/produc...roducts_id=221 It's ugly but it's stable as hell and almost indestructable!! |

| They are cool!! For my arial photography, I want a tough plane that takes off and lands in a very short space. The SS will do that really well. They are also tough as hell and spare parts are cheap I'd like to end up with a nice seaplane at some point as well. I just picked up another RealFlight simulator today, the new G4 version. I should be good to go once the SS is ready.

I had an SS on floats. It did really good! Closest I ever did to a boat. LOL! I had a HS50 servo on an extension mounted to the floats to steer on the water. Wasn't really needed, but it did work. BTW, nice knives. Used to collect knives a long time ago. |

| I appreciate the compliments on my knives. So far I'm not doing too well landing the seaplanes on the simulator I should probably start out with a SS Seaplane!! I've seen them on wattflyer.com, the seem to take right off on the water just like on land.

| The key is a very shallow rate of decent (damn near level flight) and just above stall. If you have flaps, use them.

The trick to flying a float plane is to ride the elevator on take-off so the water rudder is in the water and the nose of the pontoons doesn't dig in. If you think about getting a boat up on plane it's the same deal here (of course you need to increase air speed) but all the thust is above the water. If you don't ride a bit if up elevator it'll take a while to get going. Same thing on landing. Come in nice and slow and be ready to get on that elevator a tad. |

Supercub is awesome! Mine is held together with toothpicks and hotglue right now and flies like brand new. I have heard awesome stuff about the Hobbyzone T-28 or it may be a Parkzone, same difference. It is a low wing trainer that is supposedly super stable. Also brushless with lipos. I could get one locally for $210. I saw it fly and it looks like a lot of fun. Just something to think about if you want four channels but I love my cub.

Which plane did you get? Which AMA membership? Park Pilot or regular? |

The Junior membership(under 18 ) with the mag for $15. I would like to find out how I can get a restriction to the Park Pilot mag. I went with the Super Cub, thank you for recommending it, its a great plane. And Model Works(local Airplane & Heli only shop) had them for 139.99, instead of 159.99 like everywhere else, now I have some cash for a extra battery. What are some good flying mags that are out there? I think I have already picked out my next plane after I learn to fly this one and become good at it.
