| Class 5-1600 Baja Beetle Desert Racer no animals were harmed in the making of this rig well i wanted to build a class 5 buggy with a OG Sand Scorcher, but with the high prices, scarce parts, and heavy all metal contruction that was out. did some research and decided on a re-release grasshopper, had the right WB, cheap, sand scorcher wheels and tires, IFS, bullet proof on axle drivetrain, and had a scale driver and lights. for $83 with electronic speed control i couldnt go wrong. Kamtec Hardbody 540 conversion roof rack/lights 1.9 conversion? 3 link? oil shocks? some mexican flava! should be a simple, fun little rig |

This'll be good. I've been kicking around a class 5 or trophy bug for a long time. Now I'm thinking of a class 10 replica of the one at Colorado Sand Cars. The Grasshopper should be a good reliable base. |

well ive been busy with other RCs all week and finally got a few chances to work on this thing and get the chassis finished in stock form. the rear beadlocks was a bitch though, trying to shove the inner 2" ring threw a 1.5" hole in the hard rubber tire was a cuss fest to say the least.... its pretty cool though. i always enjoy tamiyas assembly enginuity, and the 80s technology is just sweet i ordered some stuff from the lhs to do a 540 conversion so it should be here soon, but i was quite pleased with the speed and power it had with the 380. the small tires and low tub didnt like grass much though. note to self, dont put yourself infront of your wheeling RC trying to take pics of it.....yeah it hit me in the god damn chin |

Didn't know they had motor conversions for them. I'll be interested to see how that works out. Might be another good toy to get. | |
