Been wanting to get my hands on some version of a 1/8 scale buggy for a couple reasons. First is that I want to build it into a brushless sand buggy or similar. Second, after the buggy has become boring :lol:, having the diffs and related parts to possibly build my own Poulson style axles for a future crawler...maybe even a super :twisted:

A buddy at work told me he had one he'd sell me in roller form. Only thing missing was the engine and pipe, so I bought it.

He had bought it used, so he was really no help in identifying exactly what it was. What I know is that it's a Kyosho Inferno. What I don't know is if it's just a 777, an SP1, SP2, or if it's the WC edition. Anyone know what sets these different models apart? Maybe you can tell just from the pic?

Going to start it off with buying a complete SS screw kit since some of them have seen better days, and then replace all the bearings. Everything else on it seems to work real nice and should be good to go. Now to find the parts that fit it to go brushless. "thumbsup"

Nice - looks like it has a number of upgrades on it already.

I am not completely up on the K cars, but I think that is an SP2. Looks good for an electric conversion. Don't forget to get a front bumper.

Thought I would add to this thread since I have done a couple things to the buggy. It's been a while...and really only need to pick up a nice 4s lipo for it to get it on the track.

Don't buy ss garbage. Check these out. There stuff is top quality. I have been using it for years on my savages with no breakage, bending, rusting, or anything. The bearing are also topnotch even though they are so cheap check it out.

I've already bought and installed a screw kit. I picked up a Tony's Screws kit. All stainless isn't garbage...you just have to buy the good stuff. I ended up not going stainless, but that's only cause I got a good deal on the Tony's kit.

I buy all my bearings from Avid.

Looks like the conversion was fairly simple, it looks really clean. The rims and SC tires look really good on there too.

Post up a vid once you get the lipo"thumbsup"

I won't put my d**k on an anvil but I think this either 777 or SP1. SP2 and WC both had the big bores like the ST-R, -RR (at least here in Greece) plus they also had thicker shock towers for sure. The x-brace in the center diff is a characteristic of the 777 series and was not availalable in the previous 7.5 Kanai series. The first release of the 777 had blue bodied shocks with silver tops so this makes me conclude that it is an SP1 basis. Also check the spur, if it is 46t it is 777 or SP1, if it is 48t then it is a seriously crashed SP1 or 777 using an SP2 or WC part. Finally the chassis braces on the last two versions are waaayyy thicker than the ones you have. Again I will not put my peewee (spelling?) on an anvil, just talking from experience.

But.....I am going to throw a wrench in the mix. The guy I bought it from had severely used this buggy to death racing...and I wouldn't be surprised if a couple or several parts had been either upgraded...downgraded...or simply just replaced with what we had. That's really why I was so unsure of exactly what I had. Even he didn't know which one it was...since he also got it second hand. :lol:

Anyway your case does not look very badly mix n' matched. Plastics really look like the first gen stuff (up to SP1) and chassis looks like SP1. SP2 and WC were 4mm longer something that can easily be seen from dogbones sitting a tad away from the diff in the cups (center).
Definitely the rear wing mount is the early version since the later one was much sturdier.
The truck does not look badly abused and if the chassis is straight you have nothing to worry about.

Oh and get that little front bumper, it will save your not so hard alum toe block.
